Legend
Edmund and Shapo actually have quite a history, they played each other 4 times and have a H2H of 2-2. Shapo won their meeting in Queens Club and the US Open, Edmund won in Brisbane and in the infamous Davis Cup match last year. This is the first time they are meeting on clay.

This should be a very interesting matchup. I'm curious to see how Shapo handles Edmund's big FH to Shapo's BH (which looked good against Raonic, but has been inconsistent in past matches).

Already 5th meeting. They might end up having a nice rivalry.
For this matchup, I expect both to target each others backhands.

Shapovalov's is better at hitting big winners, but Edmund's being a two hander is quite capable of holding up on its own.

Neither of them are super on clay. Shapovalov is just learning, and Edmund certainly didn't grow up on clay. It's 50-50.
43% of Edmund's pro matches have been played on clay, resulting in 50% of his victories. His only ATP final was on clay last month. When GB DC coach Leon Smith desperately needed a second singles player to back up Murray for their final vs Belgium in 2015, Edmund agreed to head to SA for Challenger tournaments that fall to prep for his role and actually won one of the tournaments.

Edmund's experience on the dirt will be a large advantage in this fifth h2h matchup.

Hope so! I like Denis but I’ve gotta root for Kyle while Mury is absent. ;)

Going with Ed as he should be a tad more consistent, both have scorching forehands though.
If Kyle does well at Wimbledon what will Henman Hill/ Murray Mound be called, Kyle’s Kop maybe as he was born in SA?

OK, here we go, the British number One versus the newly anointed King of the North. Time for the former colony to continue the work on taking over the mother country. First Canada took over the Bank of England (Carney) , then the Post Office (Greene), and today tennis (Shapovalov).

Shapo is really playing well and more composed than earlier in the year. Is anyone thinking he could actually win this event? Could be beat either Z or Big John in the next round if he gets by Kyle? His ranking would be in the mid-30's with a semi at a Masters!

His live ranking is already 34. If he beats Edmund he's in the top 30. Wins it all and he should be around 16.

But I can't see him winning, Zverev and Thiem are tough to beat.

I can't see him winning the tournament as well but a maiden Masters 1000 final would be great, especially if he can tops Zverev in the SF!
