What is Shapos weakest surface anyway? HC is his strongest surface that is certain.

Looking at shapos groundstrokes, I'd say grass is probably his weakest surface. I don't think he would be too comfortable with low bounce and a slicker surface where the game is faster. His swing is long. Seems like he doesn't use the net too often either.

Agree but his return game could do some big damage... Net skill is lacking.

Shapo takes the 3rd set and wins the match.Good win for him.He will meet Zverev/Isner in the semis.I like him - probably the only Next Gen that I can support.

He's a junior WImbledon champ and had a tight three setter against Berdych last year.

Very solid hold to finish. GG Shap, good quality match, enjoyed that! Sad for Edmund but he's got a few more points on his march to top 10 this year

There is no doubt great things are ahead for Denis. Very tough loss on the second set but the recover and win the third set is impressive for his age. He has a real chance to win this event. I think he can beat Thiem and/or Anderson if he gets by Sasha.

Dissapointed that Kyle lost but I’ll be rooting for Denis against the evil Ziraffe!

Don't get why Edmund is shaking his head and still seems upset about that incident. Play was called correctly since it was going to be an ace anyway. Edmund also won the set so not like it affected anything. Just seems kinda strange to me

If Kyle had lost the second set I could have seen it as a big deal, but it didn’t change the outcome of the match. Shapo did great to hold it together after losing that set and the MP in the TB. As for the crowd booing, there are tons of British ex-pats in Spain.

Turned the match off after the last point. Did Kyle continue with his bs?

Some idiot in the audience called "Come on Shapo" when he tossed the ball for serve. Kyle stopped thinking Umpire would stop play but Denis served and it was an ace. Umpire was right technically that he couldn't stop once the point was on but I think Kyle was expecting Shapo to re-do a serve which he probably should have but it was 30-30 so he didn't choose to be benevolent.

Ohh, thank you, that's interesting.
Reminds me of the Fognini - Bedene fight in Rio when the ballkid was still moving and Fognini served an ace as well

Seems silly, to ask for a let you never actually stopped play on.

Wow... Fed gets back to #1 and Denis makes his first Masters 1000 semi. A great day!

Never heard that at all.

I think he is stronger on clay.

I love this overreactions after one good/bad tournament. Clay is clearly Shapo's worst surface. Till Madrid (which is very uncharacteristical clay tournament due to altitude) he had just 2 wins and 8 losses on challanger+ level. Grass is the first surface he had breaktrough on at 2017 - first ATP of the year and great match with Berdych.

Even if he wins the whole thing it does not mean clay is his favourite surface. For Fed the first Masters 1000 was also clay yet noone thinks clay is/was his best surface.

No offence but your Canadian flag tells me you may be just a wee bit biased. Some think Shapo should have offered a let to Edmund. On a 30/30 point I get why he didn’t but many players would have. There were some boos and whistles right after the handshake as he walked over to the bench.
