Shappy is still way too inconsistent and needs a better iq on court. I'm sure that will come with time. His second serve also needs a lot of work.

You can see clearly how much more refined Zverev’s game is at this stage. He’s simply more solid, much more consistent off the ground.

And Zverev’s first shots really give Shapo trouble in this match up. His serve exploits Shapo’s all or nothing return mind set, and his return is really good so it generally neutralizes Shapo’s serve.

Shapovalov is a bit thick in the head isn't he ? Consistently going to Zverev's backhand and getting burned. He has good touch so should come to the net once in a while, at least to break Zverev's rhythm. Zverev is striking the ball very clearly and serving quite well too.

Don't know. Sure thing is Nadal-Gaquet SF in Monte Carlo 2005. Similar age (both older than Shapo but younger than Zverev) were Murray-Djokovic SF in Miami 2007. Don't think there are many more recent ones.

There's the age gap (who knows how Shapo will improve 2 years from now) but it's also just showcasing that consistency beats shotmaking in modern tennis. Zverev isn't as flashy as Shapo but he's efficient.
