Yeah, but playing Del Potro so early is not exactly what the doctor ordered.
Novak needs tough matches early on to get his competitive juice flowing.

He has to be judged based on how he does against the top 10 or top 20 players.

If he plays Delpo tough after losing to Taro Daniel, he is on the right path.

If he said his last match felt like his first one on tour, I don’t think Mischa’s game would be easy to deal with — regardless of his recent form. Paire, too.

Fair point, I just think he'll have an easer time with someone like Paire who has a weaker FH wing (and is a headcase to boot) and Mischa who'll give him a target by going to the net. Compared to Taro Daniel who's a consistent counter-puncher that made him earn every point.

Fed shaved guys, it's over. Go home. Miami is NID

That it's, the field is screwed now. Fed looks 10 years younger after shaving.

Yes, but a Del Potro match should be a semi final really, it is not really good if the guy is losing so many matches, that he face the hottest guy on the tour so early on, a guy who is in the zone, while Djokovic isn't. You have to build up to it.

First round is just awful at Miami with Medvedev vs Tsitsipas the one to watch. Let's hope some good qualifiers come through and even with that would need to be Kokk vs Demon for the right to play Fed.

Second round potentials:
1. Fed scenario vs Demon
2. Tiafoe vs Edmund
3. Zverev vs Tsitsi
4. Shapo vs Dzumhur
5. Raonic vs Ymer
6. Fritz vs Cilc

R32 not looking to hot either.

The real test will be Del Potro, I am taking it one match at time with him, especially after what happened in IW. If the big man falls early due to fatigue, since he has played three events in a row, then Djokovic might get going. But, need to take it one match at a time with him for now.

IMO real test is every opponent from now on. That match against Daniel was worrying. He gave up, being one break down. He must have that mental game back.

He's at Millennium Park, Chicago. I remember taking a lot of pics lying under that shiny piece of metal that looks like it is a melted T-1000

He wasn't physically match fit. Mentally he was trying, but the body wasn't responding. That will come with matches, and yes, you are right, each match is a test.

True, but Novak needs matches anyway and he was expected to have a tough opponent early on with his low ranking. Fed last year had Nadal and Djokovic in R4 and QF at IW. That was more brutal on paper, though Novak didn't make it.

Federer had gone through fire already at AO 2017, beating not one but four top ten players on his way to the title...so he was match fit ready for IW.

Djokovic is not match fit ready in the same way. The Chungs of this world are beating him at his own game...he needs to build up one match at a time, get a string of wins under his belt, facing Del Potro so early probably isn't the best way for him at the moment. Just my thoughts.

Well just want him to get some decent matches and then he's beatable like IW. Kokk or Demon on fire for Fed out of gate would be nice.:D
Well, he has the easiest draw of all decent players in the tournament. Kok has to play the match in his life to beat him. But I try to stay positive :p

I was about to say that Fed gets an easy draw again but now I realized that it would've been easy either way. The tour sucks at the moment.

Nadal will have ample opportunity to plow through a weak clay field from April to June. This is just child's play in comparison.

Fed will end up facing the better Fed for R2 I.e Bambi

How long will Kyrgios stay in the draw? Will he even start? I don't think Donskoy will make it as far as Fed as for Berdych, he's come very close to beating Fed a few times but has never done it so I'm not holding my breath. Berdych did beat Fed in Dubai in 2013 so maybe there is a chance.

Of course you and your compatriots can hope and pray. BTW, it was tongue-in-cheek. Thanks!

Delpo won't beat Djokovic if that match happens. He only plays out of his skin and mind against Federer.

I clearly remember Del Potro taking Djokovic to five brutal sets in the longest Wimbledon semi ever, which hurt Novak's chances in the final, and then denying him Olympic glory in Rio.

I think Djokovic will get ripped apart by Delpo if the match happens.

What we saw in IW means Novak is not ready yet and 2 more weeks won't change much in this regard IMO.

And London.

I will be honest. I was shocked to see Delpo win in straights against Novak after an over 4h affair against Fed in the semis.

I think Roger will be vulnerable, still cant see him lose before QF. If he reaches QF i fear It will be "mission completed" because of the #1 rank, and then he might do a Donskoy/Haas kind of loss.

If Djoko reaches Del Po, means he is good enough. I really hope we get to see this encounter. Djokovic and big matches is a Must, tennis misses that.

Goffin has a good draw. Let's hope Djoko finds his game. I will watch Jarry. I think the young mas is suited for hard court.
Roger vs. Dasco should be interesting, and I hope Mannarino makes it to R16. I'd love to see a re-game of such a good match of last year I don't remember where of Federer vs. Mannarino.
