Cena doesn’t like arrogant a-holes.

He would AA Zverev into the announce table.

Arrogance is good to some degree. You can't really be successful without some degree of it. He's not that bad, IMO. It doesn't bother me. It's his game that can bore me to tears. He needs to improve his fh and net game and it will be better to watch him, IMO.

He's the future of the sport. I'm pretty sure he'll win a couple of slams. I mean, somebody has to, right?
Eventually, Federer/Nadal/Djokovic will be gone.

Why is he so bad at Bo5 then? (Not trolling, genuinely curious)

I'm almost sure it's a mental thing at this point. Z has said in the past he struggles mentally with it, JCF said it at some point as well I believe (that was one of the main reasons why he became part of Z's team, to coach him on the mental side of the game), and same with a few commentators.

This is why I love the sport: :)

Such a shame there's no match thread for this match.

Congratulations and happy birthday, Sascha. You gave it all and it was such a great birthday gift for yourself and everyone.

Feeling so sorry for Gasquet. Wish him a good run this clay season.

I hope Chung improves his serve, if he does then he will the next dominant force.

True, but while Zverev may have a 5% chance vs Nadal, Gasquet would have a 1% chance.

It's always better to see the future of the sport advance, IMO.

Thing is, who else is going deep in the draw from the younger player except Zverev?

Well, yes not at slams yet but something's better than nothing. It's nice to see some young blood deeper in the tourney, just to mix things up.

Zverev needs a new coach, a super-coach maybe? What happened to the Lendl deal?

I would root for Nadal against Zverev even if it meant that if Nadal won he would break Fed’s slam record.

Djokovic was arrogant in his younger years but he was never this bad.

??? Are you out of your cotton-pickin' mind? Djokovic was much worse, at least for me.
For Djokovic, it’s not as bad for me because he won a slam by the time he was 20.

Z is 21 and still hasn’t reached a slam QF.

Levels.

Well, Alex addressed those rumors this week. He said: "He wasn't with me. My fitness trainer Jez Green and he are great friends. I have a good relationship with him, but there haven't been any discussion with him. Maybe in the future that's very possible but not for now." [Source]

It seems Becker also knows something about it, on Twitter a few accounts are reporting he said: "I know Sascha met with Ivan and they talked. But it's a question of timing, maybe also of budget and necessity." I don't have sources of this, most of them are in German and I don't understand it

Djokovic was a bit of a conquering bad boy. Zverev is a whiny brat.
Yeah, I didn’t like him very much back then but I appreciated his talent and he backed up his arrogance with results.

Zverev s career highlight is winning against an injured Fed in Montreal.

When he DF'ed at the 2nd deuce to give Gasquet a BP at 5all in the decider I was exclaiming "Not again!". Yes, he tends to DF towards the end of a tough match, either to give his opponent a BP or two or so timely at MP. But today there's sth about him at that moment that I think he's gone pull it through this time - maybe because it's his birthday; maybe because he's just so sick of it himself - I don't know.

I just know that a short moment later pull it through he did. And at that point it was almost certain that either he would break Gasquet or Gasquet would break himself in the next game and finally put an end to this "torture" both physically and mentally for both players...

Anyway, short matches, long matches, it was such a long day.

Wish both players a good recovery.

Ok, fair enough.

Although Zverev made it hard for himself in the deciding set by getting broken repeatedly. He was fortunate that Gasquet didn't and doesn't have a great serve.

Sure, his serve game is too shaky. That 2nd serve is still a bit of an Achiless heel it seems.

I think he needs another coach to work on his weaknesses but I like that he fights and believes he can be the future's best. He's not a paycheck happy young player and I respect that despite his attitude or whatever.

He also has a pretty bad record on birthday matches, if I remember correctly, it seems he always loses when it's his birthday so there could be a little bit of that in such expression. I totally agree on the second part. He used to choke when closing big matches in the past and also used to go into a low mood when he saw himself down in decisive sets, but for a couple of tournaments now that seems to be changing. He seems to be eager to prove a point now, so it makes sense he's just sick of it at this point, and he should, if he's gonna lose matches it should be because he's not the best player on court, not because he's unable to close it out.

I rank it a rung below the Italian Open title run, defeating 6 players who have reached top 13 ranking including another #1. The Montreal draw was short one match and the SF was vs a neophyte.

Miami final was less than a month ago and he left his mark on the court with another shattered racquet when Isner got the decisive 3rd set break.

Why should Zverev be besting Kei? Kei seems to have recovered and he's a better player.

Because he's the younger generation and he has a shot at a better tennis career than Kei will ever have. I'm sick and tired of seeing Kei injured every other week, withdrawing from tournaments, retiring from matches, etc. We've seen what Kei can do. Next. The younger players need to make some kind of mark.
How is Kei better than Zverev if Zverev is the one with two Masters 1000s and Kei has zip?

I like the bull more than the ziraffe.

That’s why you’ll always be the GOAT of Nadal haters, you’ll never hate a player more than him no matter what. :D
and i thought i 'hated' courier back then... i just didn't know what love hatred is
you're right: i really think it's scientifically impossible to create a 'player' that i'd hate more than the nadal :)

PS: c'mon grigor ! ;)

I’m agreeing with clayqueen...

What’s happening to the world? First Wenger leaving and now this...worlds gone mad. :D

He still has things to improve on. And either way, we were talking about how he deals with being down on the 3rd set tennis-wise, as in how he adjusts his game to continue in the match and not lose concentration. In Miami he showed a lot of grit throughout the whole tournament, even the final, but Isner was simply too good.

Zverev was at the right place at the right time. You can't blame someone for being injured repeatedly. I'm glad we will find out tomorrow how they match up against each other.

Dimitrov looks 2 inches taller - but everyone says he's not really 6'3. Is Nadal actually 6'0?
Nadal is 6.1" and he looks taller in the flesh than he does on TV. I've never seen Dimi in the flesh. Djokovic is taller in the flesh than he does on TV.
