I was saying that it's all about the wins, and though neither has a slam win, Zverev has 2 wins at the Masters. That puts Zverev ahead in my book, more so considering Nishikori has had many more years to build his resume. I think Kei's final and semifinal results would play more of a factor if he actually won one of the big tournaments.
Fair enough.

Did everybody else really expect just 2 measly games from the guy who just beat (an admittedly sub-par) Djokovic and who is currently reckoned to be the 2nd best player on clay?? No serious threat of a developing rivalry there then!!

Well, admittedly I predicted 6-2 6-2 result before the match (in a post in match thread here).

I've learned my lesson however, won't overestimate him again.

Ehh it’s just not a fair comparison considering the competition they’ve had. Zverev didn’t have to do much for those 2 m1000 wins. He just had to be there and not get injured.

Straight after winning his semi against Dimitrov, Nadal whipped out his phone and texted Moya to book a practice court immediately. He wasn't happy about some of his play in that difficult 1st set despite eventually winning the match for the loss of just 5 games!

This is why no-one is likely to beat him on clay anytime soon!!

The last set was 6-1, not 6-2. Not that it matters.

Oh my goodness, is that true?

That's what makes a champion. Forget talent, grit and hard work are even more important.

Nobody is beating him at RG this year unless he's injured. It's too stupid to even discuss.

It's true. As it happens, it's almost exactly 20 years ago to the day since his coach Carlos Moya won the Monte Carlo title so I hope he remembered to mention that to him as well!

Interesting fun facts

AO 1997 Moya makes the final only to lose to the greatest of that era, 20 years later he coaches Nadal to the AO 2017 final only to lose to the greatest of that era

MC 1998 Moya wins MC, 20 years laters he coaches Nadal to MC title

RG 1998 Moya wins RG....

You wern't on the Djoko2018 bandwagon? Must be said I was rather impressed how Djoko snatched the first set from Thiem once the hard court flashbacks began.

It was impressive, some of that was due to Thiem's blundering (he really should have won that 1st regardless) but Novak did show flashes of his old self, especially in that tiebreak where he executed perfectly under pressure like in the old days.

Once Thiem got the 2nd set though, Novak was cooked. His stamina is appaling these days.

Hey, did you notice that Nadal has a new main rival? Guy won 8 games yesterday. More impressive than Thiem, Dimitrov and Nishikori.

LOL, yeah. Didn't see the match, just the score. There should be a ranking system during the CC season based on who takes more games against Nadal.

Being more impressive than the fearsome trio of Thiem, DImitrov and Glassikori takes some doing, congrats to the lad even if I've never heard of him before.

Thiem was tight to start the match and served like complete garbage. I'm sure his year has been ruined just like Zverev's beating at MC last year.
Zverev is still young though. He's still pre-prime (probably) and ranked higher than Thiem has ever been ranked. Grandpa Thiem on the other hand is close to retirement age.

Zverev won Munich, Rome, Washington, and Rogers Cup after his beating.
