Is Fritz totally out or did he move into alternate status?

Black hard-courts? If it's anything like Laver Cup, it will be very pleasing on the eye.

Sounds like another trophy with Isner's name on it, John always does well in these smaller American events.
Why black tennis courts ?? that is so boring and dumb color. No Pizazz

What on earth is the King of Quito doing here? (Estrella-Burgos, Victor).

Nice qualifier list and nice job on the OP.

Why black tennis courts ?? that is so boring and dumb color. No Pizazz
Oh there'll be pizzas. The new york area is known for a lot of restaurants with good pizzaz. Some are named for their ancestors back in Italy. Some change the spelling of their names. Some just mis-spell the werd pizzaz/pizzazz. Some even call their pizazz a bittz or beetzz.

BY the wae, This ternamint is on long island, sometimes referred to as strong island. Let me tell you this much, I do not think you will have any trubell locating the pizzaz, dood! This i can tell you. Believe me.

Good luck and have a grate ternamint ekspearyunts! Hope the slices are large, and the guy offers you some farmer John cheez, spysee red peppar flakes, and a dasch uv aregganow!

What's the deal with qualifying?

J
Well, basically, it's like this smaller, poorly attended tournament before the tournament for guys whose ranking is not sufficient for direct entry. Journeymen, guys on the way up, guys on the way down...two or three wins and they get a spot in the main draw. But that's not important right now.
(Airplane reference lost on younger readers)?

These are almost always free, especially challengers. General admission.
But it looks like ticketmaster wants $18.50 for Sunday tix.....standard reserved.
Sunday night is $63.50, because it's NY. Gotta pay for the Johnny mac, genie Bouchard, JBlake and the sloane ranger.
It's $33.50 Monday. Strong Island, NY.
Hope you get to go, man! Wish I were there. Sounds like a nice event. I am curious to see Seb Korda.

Challengers tournaments are pretty much free for qualifying rounds in most locations. But not this one!

I think the shot of the night was my service return down the alley as rkelley moved towards the center to poach, and I made a deceptive rotation of my body as if I was going CC but sent the ball DTL
If this is why they moved i feel sure they will be in Chicago next year. For real pizza.

Da reel kwestshun iz witch parla iz de orijinal Ray's??? Dew theigh dew biz on Strong Eyeland now two???

They had a photo of Keith Richards on the proposal.
"I see two hardccourts and I want to paint them blaaack.
No colors anymore i want them to turn black."

That, and a nice check gets you black courts.
So they charge for qualies, and a Sunday night exo with genie, johnny, james and sloane.

I just want to watch from atop the widow's walk, switching sides every few minutes, with a good camera in hand. So cool.

@marc45 , thanks for posting that photo. That 32 banner up there is in honor of the old ny nets jersey of Julius Erving....more famously Dr. J or the Philthadelphia 76ers.
Julius Erving's daughter, Alexandra Stevenson, played some pro tennis, and got to the semis of Wimbledon once. Kind of a headcase, but she had a nice serve and approach game. Wonder if she can still hit the ball? Would be cool to have her as a part of the exo tomorrow night.
Or at least trot her out there for a photo opportunity and a montage.

I kept waiting for them to announce a late wildcard for Shapo. The NY fans love him. I guess it's not to be. He must be happy spending time at home in Toronto before heading to Delray Beach.

Weird that Fritz Paul and Opelka aren't playing. Kind of weird that they'd play Dallas but not NY.

Hopeful he makes it back to a great level. Nice, kid, hard worker, good game. His serve stance is now a platform. Looks good. But it is still not a weapon. There has always been something odd about his forearm or wrist or something.

i'd take nishikori over chung as the representative of asian tennis any day of the week

nishi has had so many entertaining and close matches against the top 4 throughout the years it just sucks not having him at his best
