Nishikori is rounding into some good form with deep runs at Tokyo, Shanghai and Vienna. Played very well against Anderson in the 3R. He has no pressure now that he knows he has made it to the YEC.

Played a very good match 2 weeks back against Federer and he would be looking for a revenge here. Fed has been rusty on serve for a while but managed to win Basel. Fed has made it clear he has come to Paris not to win but prepare for London. Will he give his all for the QF ?

H2H 6-2 Roger Federer

Eh feel like Kei will get his revenge here. Fed's form is still a bit bleh, at least against Medvedev and RBA there were signs of goodness but today was just mediocre for the most of it (still better than Basel though).

Nishikori is making a real fashoin statement by wearing the Bulgarian flag, so that might put Federer off his game just enough to illicit some double faults.

Fed has unfinished business with Djoker , he can't lose the round prior to the meetup for a third consecutive time can he?

As Djoker said in his victory speech in Cincy .

"I'm grateful Roger let me win here for a change" (paraphrasing)

So if Djoker was sincere in his victory speech , then he should tank their semi-final right? As it's still in favour to Djoker as he already has the record in Paris & that Cincy victory granted him the much coveted 'Career Golden Masters'

Or like when Fed told Roddick during his Wimbledon '09 victory speach "I know how you feel as I lost here last year" then Roddick replied with something like "Yeah but you already won 5 in a row"
Classic Roddick!
Fed conveniently ignored that part of course :p

Much like some that hang onto every word these guys say in public , much like how Fed claimed his level in 2015 was peak because he said so , yeah right ...

Difficult for Nishy to do something vs. Roger. He might get a 3rd set though only if Fed is a disaster on his serve %. Of course, Nishy is a good returner, and Fed should keep a good % of 1st serves (thing that he is not doing much lately), but the big problem for Nishy is his own serve, and Fed will jump on it.

Nishi can win this if he takes care of his own serve. It's improved lately but he had a bad serving day the last time he played Fed.

From the sublime Fog to the ridiculous Ninjurekori. Tipping Kei in three weird sets. Tankerer will eventually underpower him, but Kei's oesophageal tightening will make it close.

Can Federer break his pattern of losing in the match before he would potentially play against Djokovic? What Nishikori has going for him is that with the exception of finals he has been playing fantastic tennis lately. I will be rooting for Nishi today, as I am hoping either he or Thiem wins this tournament. I won't be home to see the match but will look forward to finding out who won when I get home!

Federer will win in 3. Nishi is not good in pressure situations. Neither is Fed, but much more likely for Nishi to choke and Fed to go on a streak

Both guys on court!!

Nishikori has the talent to beat everyone, but he is too kind to his fans and plays too much. Playing bunch of mickey mouse instead of spending quiet time at hospitals, ortho clinics, and rehabilitation resorts, even in the winter! Plus he refuses to bribe directors and gets stiffed on draws.

Does Fraud bribe for easy draws ? Or does the weak era take care of itself ?

I heard some noise that Fed had Paris courts tailored to his taste if they wanted him there ? True ?

I want that Federer v Djokovic match tomorrow, a tasty appetizer to the main course when they are inevitably going to lock horns battling for glory at the WTF

Oh C'mon... Fed needs match play but not against Djoker.. He is not in any shape to even win a set against Djoker. Atrocious serving he will get broken every other game

You rather Federer doesn't see where he stands against Djokovic before their big showdown in London?

Shall we talk about the history of Nishikori and Djokovic?

I've been watching 90% of Fed's matches since 2001 and he is not tanking this match. He may lose because he's playing poorly but he's not tanking. He's already said he's not expecting to win this event, he is aiming for London. And nobody expects a 37 year old to defeat the #1 player who is in scintillating form.

Quite a draw for Nishikori.

Anderson beat him in the Vienna final
Fed beat him in the Shanghai QF
Djoko beat him at both Wimbly and the USO in the QF and SF respetively
