Huge from Woz. Saves break point and holds for 4-3.

Just when you think Petra is going to strike, she narrowly misses. That could be a huge game for this match.

Wozniacki is annoying like hell with all that complaining and cold stares, but she does fight. With that being said, go Petra. I forgive you for having defeated Radwanska.

Sitting in my sweaty tennis clothes myself, I need this thing to end so I can shower! o_O

Only caught the end of the 2nd set and all of the 3rd but that was fantastic. Wonder how many winners Petra ended up hitting. Nearing 50.

Out of curiosity, how is Muguruza playing? Who do you, people who had the privilege of watching this tournament, think will win tomorrow?

(Tennis truly is a horrible sport to follow with my weekly work load. I'm coming to terms with the fact I'll never be able to follow closely a whole tournament from now on...)

That loss for Woz means Halep will return to world number one on February 26th.

Woz not playing Dubai. Wildcards have all been given as well.

I’ve been the exact same, barely had time to watch matches lately.

Based on form I have to go with Petra. Should be a good final though.

YES! Everyone's happy!

I hope Petra beat Muguruza tomorrow and back at TOP 10! YES!
Nono. Mugu must win and keep Conchita on coaching team.

She's playing okay. Served really well against Garcia, very high first serve %. Dunno if I'm super impressed by anything else, but she's not having her pouty moods like she does when Sumyk is around.

If Petra gets back to the top 10 with the win, then she pushes Julia Görges out of the spot she earned in the top 10. Don't want to see that. Hope for a speedy recovery for Julia. That aside, I'm rooting for Garbine in any event. She's also worked hard to get back to the top 3. Like to see her solidify that.

So many injuries these days.

Tennis is more physical than ever. Equipments are better, balls are hit harder, rallies are longer, players cover longer total distance, ankle support in shoes remains the same :) (time for basketball-style shoes?) , racquets get stiffer (hello tennis elbow!), seasons are too long.

Everyone is injured. Simona said, 'n so am I' (palindrome for Simona).

Looks like Caro might win this Doha.
The retirements and walkover list up to now:
  • Halep - Right foot injury
  • Goerges - Left hip injury
  • Rybarikova - Left hip injury
  • Kasatkina - Neck injury

The modern style of play is quite demanding. It's taken it's toll in the past few years on Nadal, Djoko, Murray, Nishikori and others as well. Lleyton Hewitt had 2 hip surgeries before he retired. Sharapova has had shoulder surgery and along with other injuries. Curious that there are 2 left hip injuries with the WTA players that you've listed. With right-handed players, it is often/usually the right hip that takes more punishment from an overuse of the fully open stance FH.

Except for his chronic back problem (from his youth), Federer has been relatively injury-free in his career prior to his knee issue in 2016. His movement, variety of stances and style of play seem to be much kinder to body than the style/movement see see from Nadal, Djoko, Halep and many of the WTA players.

Have not looked closely at the games of Goerges and Rybarikova. Have they been using a lot of closed stance, rather than neutral stance, on the BH side? Open stance on the BH side? Jumping off the left leg on the FH side? Stress to the left hip on the serve?

She complains but then she is also correct a high % of the time. That 1st point in that vid is ridiculous. The slo-mo replay shows the ball to be a good 6" out.

It's okay to complain, but the arrogance is what threw me off a bit. "Have you ever been to school?" "I could sue you and it will be very expensive, you don't want that"
