Cilic deserved to lose, he was more concerned with hitting ridiculous low-percentage shots than actually winning the match

Great match. Typical Cilic at certain (obvious) points though. You could tell that Nadal was turning the momentum even as early as the end of the 1st set when he held serve and Cilic needed 8 SPs. And there's no excuse for what happened at the end of the 2nd, which predictably led to Nadal being up 5-4 0-40 in the 3rd and Cilic sailing his last shot wide my a mile.

Watching Cilic against top players is like beating your head against a wall.

It really is Nadal's tournament to lose now. Anderson and Khachenov have combined to take a grand total of just ONE set off Nadal in their H2Hs, while the finals of a masters might be a bit too overwhelming for Stefanos at this point of his career. Also, his one handed BH is still quite a big liability, so Nadal will almost certainly beat the living crap outta the Greek's BH

I feel really bad for Cilic though, he played such an awesome match for 99% of it, but the 1% of the time where his level dropped is what ultimately cost him. Hope Marin bounces back from this cuz his game on faster courts is VERY impressive

Seriously, he keeps genuinely impressing me. People don't get why VB sees Rafa as so epic but think about this..... the guy that was running around like Bolt in the 05 Rome match w Coria, is the world #1 right now and STILL having the most exciting matches every year. I wish everyone could feel it :D, alas people choose to not appeciate it

This match at the start scare me against Cilic! But Rafa came through it like his reputation has it! Always thinking and never give up attitude serves Rafa well, usually figures it out usually, no matter who the opponent is, it will be a touch match for the opponent!:D

Nadal is winning this tournament. I'd be happy to be wrong, but there's a small part of me that just laughs at the bias of people that won't even admit that Nadal is a big favourite now. It's ok to accept that the most likely probability is Nadal holding the trophy on Sunday.

Nadal was the favourite the moment Nole went out; he was the heavy favourite once Sascha lost earlier today and now he's the undisputed favourite to win the title after edging through Cilic. The three players remaining are all no doubt very capable players, but beating Nadal at this part of a "bigger tournament" is a whole new level on the difficulty scale. Also, has Nadal ever won this trophy in Toronto? I know he's won it a couple/few times in Montreal.

Nadal has three Canada Masters wins. Two of them in Montreal, one in Toronto. Possibly on the verge of four. Not bad for a clay court specialist who allegedly lacks proper distribution.

He won it in 2008 in Toronto. Beat Nicholas Keifer in the final IIRC.

Oh yea true. I just searched up the list of Rogers Cup winners and Fedr seems to be only one among the big four who is more successful in Toronto than MTL, as both of his wins in this beautiful country have came in the t-dot. Nadal, Djokovic and Murray all have a better track record in Montreal

Classic Cilic match against a top dog.

First set was like:

ATP:

"The way that he played in that first set was unstoppable," Nadal added. "So I resisted him. I play with the right tactics. I tried to find my solutions, but it was so difficult. The dynamic was very bad for me and unbelievable good for him. So I know that the beginning of the second set would be decisive.

"And then at 2-1, I had that break where he missed couple of balls and was the first time in the match that he made some mistakes. Maybe that was a key moment. And of course that last game of the second set that he was up 40/15, and he made two mistakes. So yeah."

Cilic must be plagued by something dark and lingering.

his constant nervousness, he's hiding something...

Are you not enjoying this year's Canada Open?

ShadyInbornJavalina-max-1mb.gif

Yeah, it's been great, but not as great as the egg you got on your face LazyNinja when you tried to troll my Grass Season thread and got burnt to a crisp, and how you moaned and complained about the roof being closed. Of all the players, Nadal lost to Djokovic at Wimbledon... ;)

It was a great match, you shouldn't be upset it. :)

Here's how Djokovic celebrated the end of the grass season that GLORIOUS Sunday
