Barty breaks back. After 6 games, doesn’t appear that either of these players are winning (many) points on 2nd serves.

Barty now up to 3/7 on 2nd serves. Halep, 0/4. But she is getting 86% of 1st serves into play. Halepeno serving for 1st set...

Takes set, 6-4.

First time seeing Barty and I'm already impressed. Good BH slice and relative decent volleys, like you would expect from an Australian.

Barty now 3/14 on 2nd serves. Halep not had to hit any 2nd serves since the 4 she lost in the 1st set.

Barty is a doubles player. Helps with coming to net and volleying.

Horrible way to lose the match for Barty. Halep 2018 is just a beast on winning and she clearly loves Montreal.

Elina broken in opening game. She’s wearing the same outfit that we saw with both Simona and Venus in their face off yesterday... but wearing a blue visor variation. Sloane with same Nike shirt but green visor and green skirt.

Elina needs to serve good and start with some variety, aggressive finishing on the net tennis.
Otherwise Sloane can cover the court as much as Svitolina and punch harder than her.
This could be a slaughter.

Sloane was too good.

Will be interesting final if both player at their best tomoz.
Good thing that both Simo and Sloane can't drop shot otherwise they will be unbeatable.

Sloane did her thing today. No matter what anyone says, she justified her GS yet again today. 3rd big final since USO last year.

Can’t wait for the finals, as I really like both.

Miami open doesn't count?

PS ah _since_... :)

If Halep wins the title she’ll have an almost 2000 point lead on #2 Wozniacki.

Simo also has just 10 points to defend at the US Open following her 1R exit to Sharapova last year.

Quite dominant after a bit of a roller coaster with the #1 ranking the last 18 months or so.

I think Sloane takes this... she should have beat Halep at the French - don’t think she’ll flake out this time - plus it's hard court versus clay. On the flip side, Halep may have gotten over the “choke” hump and will play with more freedom. Should be a good match.

Van Uytvanck tells her side of the Peng Shuai story and yikes!

Sloane is just too passive. Leaving all the initiative to an in-the-mood Halep ain’t smart - that exchange on the BP to go double break up is a great example why.

Edit - gets one break back by being significantly more assertive.

Tried to tune into my stream now that I’m in America but gambling apps are banned here so I can’t access it! Ah well. I’ll have to catch to the highlights later.

That was a great point by Simona esp after all those uncomfortably deep balls Sloane was hitting.

Again up a break and will serve for the first. Wow. I expected Sloane to hold there for sure.

Halep getting into her own head too much, could be her downfall today.
