Federer setting the record straight regarding the relative prestige of Masters 1000 vs. the Year End Cup. “I didn‘t come to Paris to win the tournament, my goal is to win in London," said the 43-year-old legend. There you have it – Masters are primarily warm-up tournaments, whereas the slams and the YEC are the real 'ends in themselves'.

Doesn't say too much.

Fed is above Roland Garros too.

As someone who has called the YEC an exhibition because my favorite has not won it, I cannot stand the gall of Federer saying this.

Precisely. RG confirmed as a meaningless Mickey Mouse exo.

no, more seriously: not a good equivalence.

Fed is skipping RG precisely because he thinks it raises his overall chances of winning slams (the most important slam in particular). So Fed's treatment of the French doesn't speak against the fact that slams (and the YEC) are by far the most important goals. It's just pragmatic.

Here, the situation is different. He's admitting straight out that winning Paris just isn't that important in itself, it's just decent prep.

Your math is SoSixi!

The matter of Federer's age seems to be subject to great dispute amongst serious TTW analysts, with estimates ranging all over the place, so I just tried to pick a happy medium.
His DOB is consistently 8ish with the GOAT digit tacked on like an exclamation point. Shouldn’t be hard to remember, no? Any disputes after using that mnemonic would arise from faulty math skillz.

If I were him Id probably still play Rio and another Golden Swing 250 cause it's either that or 2 indoor HC tournies. Then over to IW

He has an outside shot at top 4 seeds in the clay season assuming Federer does not play
A critical goal is to be top 5 by beginning of clay season. This win today and week is huge. Thiem maybe winning a couple matches at WTF for SF would be worth 400 points. Top 4 by clay critical or Thiem could draw Djoko, Nadal, or Zverev in QFs. If Thiem does really well with such a high seeding its not unthinkable that he might catch Nadal for 2 seed at RG which would be huge.

A win for Thiem over Khach is huge for WTF is that might get Thiem in the same seed pairing with Anderson which gets a deadly servebot out of his hair for the round robin. 200 points a match win in WTF is just a total give away so this is big.
