Anderson leads the head-to-head 6-1, with Thiem's only victory coming in their last meeting on the clay courts at Madrid in May.

Last year's finalist Anderson has been taken to five sets twice already this tournament, by Ryan Harrison and Denis Shapovalov, while Thiem went the distance with Steve Johnson.

The Austrian is looking to make his first Grand Slam quarter-final appearance on hard courts, having lost at the fourth round stage five times, including last year in New York where he squandered a match point on his way to defeat by Juan Martin Del Potro.

A Thiem victory would have massive mojo going on in the @Meles manly area, no?

Thiem is getting to 30 on more Anderson serve games than I would have expected.

I think Anderson took the sports psychologist’s advice too far.

Thiem tactically rolling the ball over the netcord

Edit: amazing pass by Thiem to bring up another break point at 5-5

How do you feel about Thiem and Coric’s chances? We need one of these kids to win. No slam winners under 30 if they don’t.

Well there’s also Goffin and MILOS but they don’t interest you..:D

Anderson does not have his day today, first service does not help him as he would need and Thiem is better in rallies, in the first set Thiem gave more winners and the same number of UE.

Man, Am I Genius or what ?? I predicted Thiem would win because of this slow high bouncing US open courts this year................................... Just like I saw it..................WOW
Pretty amazing that a player with Anderson's reach and abilities on first return has been completely shut down. Thiem 24/24 on first serve points.
