However his performance today was incredible, especially the manner of the victory and given the surface.

I have to agree, few people picked Thiem to win this, I certainly thought he would lose in straights. Because Thiem looking good against Anderson doesn't mean he'll repeat this form against Rafa. Beating Rafa at the USO for Thiem would be huge for his career, but it would take a mental performance I've not seen from him in big matches. He has the fitness to hang with Rafa, yes, but not the mental strength. We'll soon see.

Dominic has alot of haters many brand him a claycourt specialist at best. His achievements : 2 GS semi finals and titles on most surfaces are often overlooked and everyone is looking at the current next gen players to be the future of mens tennis.

However his performance today was incredible, especially the manner of the victory and given the surface. One thing that Dominic does not get enough credit for is the guy is a fighter and rarely runs out of steam. Secondly he has alot of variety in his game arguably more than current/former top 10 players like Del potro, Zverev, Cillic, Raonic and Nishikori.

Given a player like Wawrinka won multiple slams late in his career there is no reason to rule out Thiem having similar success. Infact I would say Dominic has far more natural athleticism than Stan and overall a more solid game which is less likely to.break down.
There is not many other upcoming/current top 10 players with one handed backhands so always good to see Dominic advancing his game. I also believe Breznik has really helped him believe he can win on any surface.

Best he's ever played IMO.
It's his smartest match and it appears @Gary Duane 's and my Thioptimism was not unfounded from early hard courts where Thiem through IW and the ankle break in the Cuevas match was:
78.6% first serve points won and hold% of 87.1% with a very nice 67.7% of points won on serve. Thiem was 65.8% on serve points in 2015, 66.0% in 2016, but dipped to 64.5% in 2017 with his 2nd serve malady and all the failures to hold.

The early numbers on serve boded well for the year and clay which was nearly derailed by the time off for the ankle fracture. A very fresh Thiem is building form at US Open and exceptionally dangerous given his servebot solution unveiled for Anderson (returning from back wall on big show court.

Thiem won 82% of serve points against Basic, 73% against Johnson over 5 sets, 64% against Fritz over 4, and 78% against Anderson. Thiem won 37% of receiving points against Anderson which is really solid. 38% versus Fritz. 34% against Johnson. 46% against Basic. Thiem is up to 54.1% points won for the tournament versus 52.8% on hard in first half of 2018, 50.8% in 2017, 51.0% in 2016, and 49.7% in 2015.

Thiem at 54.1% for the entire US Open would be good enough for a marginal slam winner. Nadal last year was 57.3%. Sampras 2002 was 54.4%. Kafelnikov 1999 Auz Open 53.3% for the event:

Agreed.I didnt expect Thiem to win. Before this match Anderson and Thiem had met 6 times on HC with Thiem losing all of them and taking only 2 sets so I wasnt expecting much from him.But he was amazing in this match, his win was never in doubt, totally outplayed Anderson and didnt even face a single BP.

Fedr still has that title. :p
Not to me, sorry. Winning all slams, WTF + all masters is the most impressive achievement possible - and the most unique (+ doing it multiple times in 12 out of the 14 events is extrordinary). Nothing can beat that , not even 25 slam titles ;)
Best all-around resume = all-around GOAT . Novak is my King and I bow down to him :D
The only other achievements that could even remotely compete for my attention at this point are: several titles at every slam (or at every tier 1 overall) or calendar slam. Or 1 player holding record for most slams, most masters + most WTFs .
Until then, the Djoko slam + winning all tier 1 is the best I have ever seen.
Get going guys :)

I'm fine with your POV but have to point out that unique is unique. You can't be most unique or more unique or less unique. :D

Now, carry on! ;) <ducking>

Thiem surely kept his words. Congrats to Thiem and Thiemeles on reaching his first QF at the USO.

Thiem said he played one his best matches yesterday - and rightly so. Smart tactics, and quite many fantastic shots.

Yes, but beating Rafa here is not nearly the same feat as beating him at RG... and we have Madrid. I am interested to see who the U.S. Open courts end up helping more. Bring on the match.
