So sorry I can only post now but I had to go out.
Very, very happy for Nole because he'd lost so many USO finals in the past.
Really nice to stop the bleeding, and so well deserved.
Also beautiful camaraderie between the 2 guys.
And Novak just earned best player of the year with his 2nd slam title. What a come back this is turning out to be for him! #1 will be next I think. Massive congrats.

…..

Fortunately I was able to answer my own question so the searing pain of being ignored will eventually subside.

For some reason, Djokogoat's serve has been mediocre since the split with Becker. Wonder if there's a chance he invites him back.
Just loop it in and start the rally, no?
Is best for the viewers, no? :D

well Ramos weighed incorrectly!

Maybe with the first call. Maybe not. Second and third calls are entirely on Serena. Also, her previous threats against officials are a baggage she's carrying around. If this was a first instance, you can argue that the official injected himself in the match. But this is not the first time she goes after officials when she's loosing a match. If she focused on the match after the first call (even if it was incorrect), she wouldn't have this problem. Instead, it looks like she tried to find a scapegoat for her poor play. Also, she did respond to the coaching by going to the net right away. The problem in the match was her very poor movement. She just needs some time to fully recover from the childbirth. That's it.

And more importantly, equal Nadal here with three USO titles. ;) Tragic that Rafa leads here.
No, tragic would have been winning only 2 titles out of 8 finals, especially for a hard court player of Novak's caliber. Nothing to do with Rafa. Nadal has actually done well in a few hard court events, namely IW, Canada and USO (3-1 in finals, even 4-0 in Canada which is also the first hard court event he's ever won and his best event on hard overall). Interestingly Nadal's most finals on hard court- you're never gonna believe it- is... Miami!! 5 finals there, his hard court record, except he's lost all of them  Compared to that, Djoko's 3-5 at USO doesn't seem so sad ;)
ETA: Rafa also has 4 AO finals (1-3) and 4 Beijing finals (2-2)

Sad for Delpo and wish it could have at least been closer but congrats to Djokovic! He proves why he was many people'd favourites and looks like he is well and truly back to make life very difficult for Nadal and Federer

Wish the Stanimal can truly reawaken in 2019...

The way djokovic pins the opponent in the corner and just pounds the ball is a sight to behold. Relentless.
Can not really celebrate feel hurt for DelPotro. Love wrecking the dreams of the crowd tho.
The game is formidable and he looks hungry.

This was one of the few matches I had the chance to watch entirely, and I was more than impressed at both of their shotmaking, Djokovic was countering del Potro's huge ground game and was giving interest. Man, it felt like both were blasting the ball, and with good margins too. I thoroughly enjoyed the rallies, they both showed high intensity.

Kudos to DP, he gave it all but it wasn't enough against Djokovic the monster. Basically, Djokovic played with more variety. He mixed it up. DP, who I dearly love as a person and a tennis player, just didn't have a plan B.

It felt like an old Djokovic. He, somehow, almost always manages to raise his game level against best players ... Djokovic is THE WALL. DP just wasn't able to penetrate, no matter how hard he tried. I do agree that match was kinda close but never in doubt. Djokovic, when on, is simply unplayable and he manages to adjust so well to anybody.

The guy is just unbelievable. His BP conversion right till this final was atrocious. The final comes and suddenly his BP conversion goes 'through the roof' ... His net play today was very, very good. Slicing too.

We used to laugh at his smashes. Well, today he refused to miss. Don't be unfair to DP. DP played very well, but there was nothing he can try to hurt Novak today. Djokovic simply didn't let him. It's not DP's fault that Djokovic is simply a better player. I do hope and wish that DP could lift another GS trophy.

The umpire was great. She managed to control the wild NY crowd. Kudos to her. She kinda tolerated Novak going over the time limit a few times, but finally Djokovic got a time warning ... Nice touch. She was right and nobody complained, not even Djokovic. So, huge kudos to the umpire.

Also, great to see 2 great players being so friendly to one another. I knew that Djokovic and DP truly care for one another on and off the court. It was nice to see Novak trying to console DP when he was crying and DP saying 'Nole, I love you'. Djokovic was one crying after the OG If I remember correctly.

Well, Djokovic started writing another chapter. Only dear God knows what is next ...

As for the 'young guns' ... they should watch this match and learn something. I said it before and I will say it again and again there will be a huge void after Fed, Nole and Rafa retire. Yes, we'll eventually get some new GS winners but I have a hard time believing we will ever see 3 champions like them. Of course, never say never but I'll stop here. There is no point.
Well done Nole. It seems again 'This is Sparta' :). Never give up.

letter of the rules???

please.

he should have used better discretion!

the match was not about him!
Lol, better discretion. Sounds like you're saying that he should have let Serena do what she liked :)

With this win Djoko ties Nadal for # of tier 1 events won:
Djoko: 14 slams + 5 WTF + 31 masters = 50
Nadal: 17 slams + 33 masters = 50

What a tug of war between these 2!

Forgot about Fed? He beats them both with 53. And Masters 1000's are still way, way below a slam and significantly below the WTF. :D

Yep Fed is the current record holder with 53. Only 3 ahead. I doubt very much that record will stand the test of time ;)
Fed: 20 slams + 6 WTF + 27 masters

Fell asleep in front of the laptop when it reached 3-1 in the third set. Well done Novak - 14 Slams is amazing. Great turnaround after he lost to Ceccinato and hinted he may not play the grass.

These ATGs don’t follow the normal rules.

Well done to Djokovic for another grand slam title, and a hugely impressive revival (having now won 3 out of the last 4 big tournaments). As I previously said, before this North American hard court summer he had 'only' won 2 US Open titles and 0 Cincy titles. For a player of his calibre and especially with his ability on hard courts, that just felt wrong. So he has put things right this summer.

I would have preferred to have seen Del Potro win, and cap off his own revival and comeback after so many injury problems during the past 9 years, but of course Djokovic is a terrible match-up for him (3 out of his 4 wins in their h2h have come while representing Argentina in the Olympics or Davis Cup).

Taking my cue from you and the @Doctor/Lawyer Red Devil :)

You are a sweetheart, did you know that? Bet you do. ;)

I hope for Del Potro to be back in the winner's circle soon. I know, feel and believe he can win more. It took Nadal's absolute best, Djokovic's best to stop him in the last few slams. I will be cheering right along side of you. Getting stronger. :)

I am always amazed by his clutchness. That marathon 3-4 game in the second set sealed the match IMO. If he had lost the second set it would have been a tough match.

A monumental game, worthy of a grand slam final.

20 minute game. I just knew he was getting ready to lose that set but fought like a lion. I felt that was the turning point and he would find a way to take the second after that.

It was pleasure for me to discuss Djokovic's Earth's Mightiest Summer with you over the past few weeks. He did it....

Yes it is. This should be a great fall season for Djokovic, which is one of his most successful parts of the year. He has a great chance to get the year end #1 ranking.

The perfect ending to the season if he does it.
