Osaka winning one major is not a changing of the guard (why would you focus on her in that regard?). She would be doing her job like any player winning a major. Further, the 23 majors not won by Serena since 2010 means the guard has changed with other players winning--several more than a single major.

I can't say I'd be happy with either b/c I reallyyyyyyyyy want Serena to get to #24, but if there's one person I couldn't begrudge beating her it's Naomi. She's so cute and I've been liking her game for two years now.

On the other hand, if Serena is determined to not find herself stuck with her current majors count yet another time, she will make short work of Osaka. That, and coming back from the emotional poles of childbirth and nearly dying could be the greatest motivator of all at the site of her first majors title.

I somewhat agree, although against Pliskova and Sevastova she had what could have been bad days - I think she fought very hard mentally to pull herself out of a funk at the start of each of those matches, which is what gives me encouragement for her moving forward. (Not to mention the Kanepi match, although that was different in that both players were actually playing well throughout most of it.)

Several people seem to think that it's all about Naomi and how she plays that will determine the outcome of the match. Serena Williams has the most dominant game that women's tennis has ever seen... every match is well and truly on her racket.
