Zagor, do you think Wimbledon is now Novak's "to lose"? I'm not sure it will be that straight forward.

Not at all but if Novak wins, I think he'll do it in 4.

Just because I don't pick Novak in 5, it doesn't mean I consider him to be a big favourite.

I'm not sure the final will be a gimmie for either of them as well if Isner beats Anderson so definitely not Novak's to lose but I'd pick him as the title winner.

What a match. DelPotro should have broken back though. He had it. Just converting one of those break points and tying it up would have changed it all. That would have been incredible. Truthfully I don’t see anyone beating Rafa in this tournament now because I don’t think Djokovic is all the way back yet. I’m a Federer fan but I didn’t think he would win this tournament. This is not the Fed of last year at all. My heart hoped Fed would win it, but my head said he wouldn’t. I didn’t think it would end in the quarter final though. Rafa has been playing well and he wants it bad. It is now even more likely that he will meet or exceed Fed’s slam record. He is the ultimate fighter. I would never count him out.

Again, how is it “hate” if I go for someone other than Rafa?

By that logic, why are you so hateful towards Federer, Novak, and Murray?
Nothing wrong with going for another player. I’m talking about playing down his achievements etc.

You think he’s gonna make it through a resurgent Djokovic after going for 4.5 hrs with Delpo?

Likely.

"Resurgent" Djokovic? Because he beat his pigeon Nishikori? Djokovic is lacking match toughness at the moment.

Yes, the physical factor with Nadal coming off a very long QF "could" play a factor but as I said before, I've seen this script with Nadal many times where logically one would have thought his long matches would have affected him and he still prevailed.

omg I cannot keep up with these icons now.

Nadal will be motivated definitely (he's very close to Fed's slam count now) but I'm not sure that makes a noticeable difference with him, if it's a big slam match he'll always play with amazing intensity regardless of the overall narrative (if that makes sense). Don't think he can dig deeper than he already always does in a big slam match.

Novak's mentality will be definitely more of a question mark, he has that look again. He has been mostly ruthless on court this Wimbledon (in a good way) but it's been quite a while now since he got a big win over a top player. This will be a test to see if he can get that killer instinct back. It's a good opportunity for him to do so.

if fed had to wait 5-6 years to get 18, so should nadal.

Fed had two 5-6 year younger ATG lions chasing him, Nadal has other 30 year olds and the worst crop of young players in tennis history to contend with.

It ain't fair but that's life.

Wishful thinking I know but maybe stars will align snd fed will magically get Uso. I'll say one thing thank God fed won Ao this year snd of the two slams did not see him losing Wimbledon and defending AO

Nadal: It has been a very emotional match, I think great quality of tennis, especially the 5th set. Of course sorry for Juan Martin, he's an amazing player, amazing opponent, in some ways he deserves to win this match too... Being back in the SF of Wimbledon is a great feeling

Yh I expect a strong USO run from him. He’s still top 2 favourite with Nadal I think anyway.

Fed's one of the most resiliant players I've ever seen so who knows, he'll still be one of the contenders this USO just definitely not the main favourite (more like 3d or 4th). Definitely happy won AO this year, he's fighting a losing game here against a younger ATG rival, every opportunity is precious.

Is it just aura though? Wimbledon even though a near 37 year old shouldn't be a fav I get, someone who hasn't won since 2008 idk. The slow courts will do no favors but I want to believe

Which is why I really wanted this Wimbledon because I knew this year while a good run could be his last. Idk if you saw his interview on the Wimbledon site. It relaxed me a bit. Thankfully he is not as much of a debbie downer as his fans like me

That last set of Nadal Delpo was truly one of the greatest sets I've ever seen. For the drama yes, but mainly for the astounding quality. I'm a big critic of modern tennis, but every now & then something like that pops up to keep me watching. Even in that category that was awesome, way better than any of the sets in the 08 final.

Yeah I saw it, he seemed as positive as possible after such a loss. I think it's just that at this stage he accept that he tried his best and well that it wasn't enough this time. I don't think the guy's going anywhere as long as he feels he can still win slams, this year he won AO and was a point away from a Wimbledon semi so in his mind he's still a contender.

Hopefully he has a better USO this year, we'll see.

this is the type of match fed lost to jmdp earlier in the year.

nadal however just doesn't relent and closes so well...too tough from the hulk.

Well, before the match I never expected it to go 5. I voted Nadal in 3 actually. And if Nadal had won the 2nd he would've steamrolled Delpo in the 3rd IMO.

As the match played out, I was pretty confident that Nadal had it after he won the 4th.

yep. nadal practically choked the 2-0 lead...set point and then he DFed.. LOL

almost came back to bite him.
