Nothing wrong with some grunting but you’d think the tournament or WTA would step in and say that being only halfway through their scream as the other player starts to load up on the ball is ridiculous.

In first set she hit a backhand pass and the scream was still going after the ball had gone by Rus at net. Fowler made a comment about possible hindrance call a point or two earlier, but I definitely thought she should have got one on this point.

If it wasn’t Serena struggling in a first round match there would probably be some more complaints and the chair would have said something.
