3rd slam of the year.

Great tournament coming up with all the big players in action.

The seeded players in order are:
Halep, Wozniacki, Muguruza, Stephens, Svitolina, Garcia, Pliskova, Kvitova, Venus, Keys, Kerber, Ostapenko, Goerges, Kasatkina, Mertens, Vandeweghe, Barty, Osaka, Rybarikova, Bertens, Sevastova, Konta, Strycova, Sharapova, Serena, Gavrilova, Suarez Navarro, Kontaveit, Buzarnescu, Pavlyuchenkova, Zhang and Radwanska.

Defending champ in singles is Muguruza. The defending doubles champs were Makarova/Vesnina but Vesnina is out with injury so Makarova plays with former #2 Zvonareva.

The wildcards have gone to:
Boulter, Broady, Dart, Dunne, Jabeur, Smitkova, Swan and Taylor. 6 of the 8 wildcards gone to the Brits which I believe is a record number.

Qualifying was pretty stacked. Three former finalists in action: Lisicki, Zvonareva and Bouchard. Vera and Genie currently in the final qualifying round but Lisicki went out in QR1.

The withdrawals are: Bellis, Errani, Haddad Maia, Siegemund and Vesnina.

Entry list for the singles: http://www.wimbledon.com/pdf/LS06242018.pdf
I'll paste the draw and order of play here when it's released.

Halep, Wozniacki and Sloane are in contention for the #1 ranking at the end of the tournament.

Serena looking to equal Miss homophobes 24 slam record.

A lot of players can win the title so the poll is pretty hard to create. Gotta include Serena, Sharapova and Venus even though they aren't the top 8 seeds and i'm throwing in former finalist Kerber. So i'm bumping out Svitolina, Garcia and Pliskova. Really hard choice but feel free to tell me what you think I should've done..

So feel free to vote

Agree with including Serena and Venus in the poll. But whether sharapova will be a factor in grass?

She was the one I was going to leave off but after Rome and the French Open she looks decent and besides, Pliskova’s never gone past the 2R and both Svitolina and Garcia haven’t gone past the 4R and haven’t been playing as good as Maria.
I actually wanted to leave Venus off cause her form is awful but just couldn’t do it.

Pretty adorable pic of Serena’s Bub.

I know her name is Alexis but I bloody hate that name cause it’s also her fathers??? So I’m just calling her Bub.

Seriously, who names their daughter after their father?

Who names their son Alexis?? That is not a gender-neutral name! I've never met anyone named Alexis that wasn't a girl. Alex, I could see since it could be short for Alexander or Alexandra, but Alexis? 100% female name.

looking around, Alexis seems to be a mens name in the Russian speaking world and the Greek world ...

A lot of famous people had that name.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alexis_(given_name)

Karen Khachanov is a mens name in his part of the world too.

Watching Bouchard play in the qualifying tournament; she seems to have her game back...now and play like she did in 2014! If Bouchard continues her fine play; she should make it back to the finals again possibly!

Now that Bouchard is in the main draw, I bet officials pray for her not to slip on the grass.

Commentator has a point.
Lot of the top ranked players who have a shot all in the top half like Halep, Garbie, Kerber and Kvitova whereas Pliskova, Woz and Svitolina in the bottom half who haven't gone depe at Wimbledon.
But, lot of the quality lower seeds all in the bottom half: Serena, Radwanska, Rybarikova and Coco.

Two commentators still have Kvitova to win, other picks Garbie.

A lot of great 1R matches:

Buzarnescu va Sabalenka
Georges vs Puig
Kuznetsova vs Strykova
Zhang vs Petkovic
Vekic vs Stevens
Svitolina vs Maria
Coco vs Siniakova
Georgi vs Sevastova
Hsieh vs Pavlyuchenkova
Cornet vs Cibulkova
Collins vs Mertens
Kerber vs Zvonareva
Niculescu vs Osaka
Bencic vs Garcia

And Pova if she makes it out the 1R will play either with Sakkari whom she lost couple of days ago or Kenin, who gave her hard times at the last years USO, and is on the rise right now.

well I'm only supporting Su Wei. I hope she can make the third round. You can't ask for too much because there are just too many good players there in her section alone

Uh, Alexis is a proper Greek masculine name and has been such for centuries. Who names their daughter Alexis should be the proper question.

Diatchenko v Sharapova

This match should be live-streamed and live-captured in the 'Best Assets' thread. It will break all viewing records...

A lot has to do with the draw sheet as to who will win the title! I am now more interested in the woman’s matches then the men’s this year!

I love for Halep to win it but i dont see that happening. Kvita is my pick but
she is so obvious i think she will not make it to the finals.

So i think the trend of the last few slams will continue and we will have a new first time slam winner
Someone we haven't even thought of.

Wonder how the grass is playing.. Cause i am expecting lots of upsets in the
early rounds.

Oh yes its good to see BMS back with Lucie !!!
