Pliskova-Wozniacki 6:2, 4:3
Wozniacki produced 7 BPs, but don't gained any break.
Thanks to stable service and good return, Pliskova is today better than Wozniacki.

Pliskova-Wozniacki 6:2, 5:3
Pliskova saved 8th BP (4 in first set, the same number is in the second set). Wozniacki has a bad conversion today to BPs.

Pliskova-Wozniacki 6:2, 6:4
Wozniacki produced two more BPs in the last game, but failed to prolong the match.
Pliskova played in peace and relaxed. Her service helped her as she needed.
Both female tennis players returned well, each produced 10 BPs, but Pliskova had a better service and surpassed Wozniacki even in rallies.

Seems like Pliskova tanking to Zvonareva was a good move.

Both slamless players won today over slam champions (Pliskova and Svitolina over Woz and Kvitová).

Could we possibly see a 4th straight year of a slamless player winning the YEC?

2015: Radwanska
2016: Cibulkova
2017: Wozniacki
2018: ?

I've calculated that the number of years when the YEC was won by a Slamless champion breaks at 12 for the women and 11 for the men:.

Women: 1972 Evert, 1973 Evert, 1982 Hanika, 1987 Graf, 1988 Sabatini, 1997 Novotna, 2002 Clijsters, 2003 Clijsters, 2005 Mauresmo, 2015 Radwanska, 2016 Cibulkova, 2017 Wozniacki.

Men: 1970 Smith, 1971 Nastase, 1974 Vilas, 1978 McEnroe, 1981 Lendl, 1982 Lendl, 1990 Agassi, 1998 Corretja, 2005 Nalbandian, 2009 Davydenko, 2017 Dimitrov.

The number of YEC champions who remained Slamless breaks at 4 for the men and 3 for the women (at time of posting).

Men: 1998 Corretja, 2005 Nalbandian, 2009 Davydenko, 2017 Dimitrov.

Women: 1982 Hanika, 2015 Radwanska, 2016 Cibulkova.

Interestingly, I've calculated that the number of years when the YEC was won by a Slamless champion breaks evenly at 11 each for men and women:.

I think that's good news for Dimitrov, he still has some good tennis left in him. It wouldn't surprise me to see him win a slam.

Time is running out for Radwanska and Cibulkova though, Aga did not have a great year.

if she can put together match like this, why can Elina put together 7 in a row and win a major ?
Maybe she lacks a mental game to play on the big stage, as soon as you put her on CC, she collapses like a cheap tent. And now, while she is improving her body, she lacks stamina for a 3rd set, she always had the game, I don't know who advised her on the diet.

Sloane is rallying brilliantly, patient and focussed.

Osaka's attitude has too much impurity.

Osaka's forcing her shots in an effort to overwhelm Sloane. Bad idea imo.

Tough hold from 2 bps down.

That was a poor game from both of them. Sloane lost her serve on a df.

Sloane's varying her direction and spin a ton on her groundstrokes, yet Osaka is handling it all.

Come on Naomi, hold for a third set.

She lost it on a wild swing volley after setting it up with so much good work to undo the Sloane rally ball.

Great, one set a piece!

I really like these powered down change of spin and direction ground strokes they are using here. From the back, they are about evenly matched, but Osaka needs more patience.

This first game on 3rd set show that Sloane kinda show different rhythm and pace injection and flatter.

Especially her BH now is very different. Slo has a lot of games.

That drop shot from within her defence was brilliant from Sloane to reach mp.

Sloane wins 6-1 in the third. It seems Osaka conceded she was the better player after the second game of the third set. Even when she lost her serve, Sloane never stopped being tough. Quite unlike her other persona.

Osaka's is not the same she was psychologically at the US when she was pure and focussed.
