Singapore was one of the best played heavy weight women’s events this year. This is a great surface for tennis.

2018 has been such a year for the women. Nearly all the P and PM’s finals have been between and won by ralliers. All the slams and the finals have been between and won by ralliers too.

The rivalry is in the women’s game. Everyone keeps expecting and demanding the usual Fed/Nad, Evert/Navratilova kind of rivalry when the rivalry isn’t between two individuals anymore. imo they are missing what the contest actually is, even the WTA imo is missing the opportunity to market it. This is a rivalry between two lineages, two styles of play, tactical rallying vs classic power striking, and that the ralliers are winning. i.e.: Run and gun > gun and gun >>>>>>> run and run.

The women have two pài or Ryū. Roughly speaking :

Serena Halep Kerber Wozniacki Osaka Sloane Svitolina Kasatkina Bertens Suarez (WangQ)

Kvitova Venus Goerges Garcia Keys Ostapenko Giorgi Muguruza Pliskova (Sabalenka) Cibulkova

(I didn’t expect Wang and Sabalenka to make such a great move after September)

WTA have a whole tableful of first class assets to work with for years.

When you have one super number one, you have an apex leader and a strong healthy ecology.

If you have three, you have a wasteland.

It's been a good season IMO. Two players who have been and reached number 1 in the world before finally won a Slam, a young rising star did that as well, Angie recovered from last year's slump, Eli won WTA Finals, Serena had two runs into the final, Bertens and Sabalenka seem to be on the rise... Nice.

Will post the full season gallery when that event in Zhuhai ends. Again I say, what a stupid schedule, playing WTA Finals before that tournament.

RG cause clay is het best surface

I think Svitolina is better suited to hard courts, vulnerable to those players who can mix it up on the clay, Suarez, Buzarnescu players like that who can take her out of comfort zone. Not sure any of the slams suit her totally for different reasons the heat of Australia, the favouring for the home players in the USA, Wimbledon not that comfortable on grass. If she could get some night matches in Australia, or it wasn't superhot that like for Woz would be her best shot. Medium/quick hard courts are best for he when she can win free points on serve and first return and grind in the rallies, using her speed. Basically her game is not that different to Woz but with 10% more power and speed when playing well. She hasn't got a huge forehand and the second serve is a liability but all the others have weakness.

Whatever this week if she had any doubts she was a top player those surely have gone, beating 5 top players in a week is some going and for her that semi against Bertens was such a big hurdle she has lost several close big matches in big events. To get over the line in one was a big step and in the final she was so much better.
