I mean Mouratoglou has said that the goal each and every year is to win a CYGS. So. That's always a thing at the beginning of every season (until she loses at AO or whatever).

Also she’s a competitor. She will retire when people start beating her on a consistent basis something that hasn’t happened with her. As long as she has that serve she will compete. Best serve in the women’s game.

Nah, I'm relaxed. I was more thinking there might be drama, followed by a comeback in the third or some such. I think odds are incredibly low of Serena letting Jules walk away a victor.

I did kind of expect more from Jules. IDK, I didn't think she'd be so....scared. But I guess she's never done that well at GSs despite her considerable talent.

I think she has given herself a shot here. We will see what happens but i am confident in her match against sharapova. She will have to play very well if se advances and plays muguruza but i think she has that 0-2 against her in her mind and wants to beat her!
 
Serena is looking good tbh. Hard to know what to expect against Maria, but at this point I'd favour Serena given the history of the matchup.

Well on that new tv documentary, Serena said she wants to have another baby soon. I think she'll get to 25 slams and then may call it a day then. Nobody will beat that record (25 slams.)

I don’t think she’s stopping at 25 but we will see. I am sure the rest of the wta players would love that lol. That’s why these players need to grow a backbone and compete and be consistent. As great as muguruza is she is very incosistent.

Very nice. Can’t believe that sharapova had a 2-1 edge and then since then it’s been all serena. We will see if sharapova has any dignity and will give it her best. It might still not be enough.
 
did robins seriously just rip on French TV for televising French tennis player's matches over Serena's match ..?

Your view is so much the opposite of reality. "What more does she need?" I was not aware that there's a cap on personal achievement. Unlike other players, she has much going on in her life, and always had that, so its not like she's living through tennis in the way Navratilova seemed to function while on tour. She loves playing--and that's a great reason to continue instead of playing for money, or because you have noting else to live for.

Your post also sounds like a thinly veiled way of saying "well, some of my favorites cannot win if Serena's still playing", and if that's the case, its up to those other players to actually step up and do their job--the same thing said of the Cannot Win A Major Legion on the ATP, who still have not replaced the Grandaddy Generation (Federer, Nadal, Djokovic, et al) as the dominant players/majors winners of the sport.

I don't think it's that straightforward.
Nobody who just loves to play can have that attitude on the court.
It's at the very least a love-hate relationship.
I agree with the rest: Serena, much like Federer, has a lot more going on in her life.
Everybody does what they like in their lives, no need for a thinly-veiled criticism of Navratilova's dedication to the game.

I don't think her fans would mind a very poor tour indeed if that meant Serena could win a historic CYGS.

You can call it whateva you want but if you can serve well and serve with placement and speed you can beat anybody. That has never faltered. She still crank the forehand as well. I think muguruza will be tough if Serena gets by sharapova but if she beats muguruza that will be impressive no matter what you think.
