Sorry for Garbine, both calfs cramping + issue with her right wrist....

Kudos to Krunic who came back being down 2/5 in the 2nd set against #1 seed....I discovered Aleksandra when she had that great run at the USO a few years back and she's one of my favorite WTA players.
She's only 5'4 but a REAL firecracker, takes the ball so early, awesome variety in her game, can hit some nasty 1st serves too...
Hopes she gets in the top 25 this year !

They make tennis shoes and apparel, but not sold here in the US. Check TW Europe.
They also make racquets but you can't buy them anywhere outside of Japan, which is a shame.

Aside from that, rather pleasantly surprised Krunic is playing really competitive tennis. I remember that when I watched her a year or two ago, I didn't know if her career would go anywhere considering what she was doing on court. She still has some things to iron out of course, but her game is getting better overall.

3-2 in 2nd and Jelena Ostapenko has an small but emotional breakdown on the changeover. Kristina Pliskova took the first set 6-1 and the French Open champ is struggling at Shenzen tournament.

3-2, second set. Pliskova serving for 4-2, and was up 30-0 on her serve. Check back a minute later and it’s 3-3. Oh, women’s tennis.

Kristyna P. Serves her way to a victory over Ostapenko, 1 and 4. Jelena didn’t appear sharp at all and seemed rattled by the lefty’s game especially her serve.

Can anyone explain to me what it is about Konta that makes these commentators go on and on about her like she's some future all time great? All I see is your classic ball basher.

[commentator talks about how amazing Konta is at saving break points] [Konta hits an unforced error on the third shot of the rally] "Well it didn't happen that time."

Konta and Ajla, score is 3-4 in the first set. Don't think anyone has held serve in this match. Yikes!

In the crowd watching Konta v Tomljanovic. Konta finally finding her rhythm.
Crowd not really behind anyone. Konta is British but Aussie born whilst Tomljanovic is Croatian but switching to Australian citizenship soon.

Both have Aussie connections but loosely.

And Konta gets broken to love. That's like 6 straight breaks of serve.

Ajla to serve for the set at 5-4.. let's see if she can hold.

I want to see a top 50 man compete in the WTA for a year. Just to see the entire field shown as an absolute joke. Anything to get the deficiencies through to people and get some more ATP technique into the women's league. If I see another up and coming women's player hitting that hideous, hunched over, crouching forehand I'm going to break a racquet.

Why the hell are you watching? If you don't like women's tennis, don't watch it and get out of this thread with your annoying, pathetic opinions. Pretty damn basic.

Is the commentator Renee?

Because it's all that was being televised at the time. I'm sorry not all of us here can be as wilfully ignorant to shockingly poor tennis as you, but the fact that you can't see that 9 breaks in a match between two players whose serves are meant to be one of their strengths is appalling.

Mate, I'm guessing you maybe can't read cause I said before how it was a terrible quality match. Doesn't mean I go on a boring rant insulting all of women's tennis like you did. If you hate it so much then go watch a movie or watch paint dry. It's unbelievably rude to those of us who enjoy women's tennis.

If you can sit there and defend the current state of women's tennis as anything but a shambles then you're either watching them for:

A. the looks, which is fair enough,
B. because there's no men's tennis matches airing, again fair enough, or
C. it makes you feel like a champion of equality.

There isn't a single aspect of elite women's tennis that can be compared favourably to the men's game. The few players who showed true artistry and individuality like Radwanska and Kvitova aren't real factors any more. It's cookie cutter smacking of the ball as hard as possible, and an occasional drive volley if they get caught too close to the net.

D: because I like watching women's tennis.

Wow it's not as high quality as the men? Colour me shocked! Is it the worst thing in the universe like you're acting? Hell no. These are two great women and I care more for this match than Millman v some Canadian which is up next. The first set sucked but I've enjoyed the rest. Quit your damn whinging already. Go watch paint dry and shutup.

I’m surprised that I know exactly what you mean. That technique is ugly as hell, but I somehow could never put my finger on it like you described it just now.

Such drama and hatred for the women game is uncall for! They are tour players too! :D Many times I like watching the ladies more then the men!

I genuinely have no idea what the coaches are doing. Even the commentators, you hear them marvelling at how low a player gets to a ball, almost sitting on the ground, as if it's some spectacular feat of shotmaking. Maybe people are just used to it, but can you imagine if Federer and Nadal met in a final and all of a sudden they were hitting like Konta and Bouchard? Commentators would be questioning whether they're fit to play.

Don't watch.

Newsflash. The women don't play the men's game. The men play the men's game. If you don't like the women's game there are men playing right now. Turn the channel. Simple stuff really.

I am sharing your sentiments. I enjoy WTA tennis for the reasons that I enjoy watching ladies’ way of playing tennis.

There's nothing wrong with the women's pro game. They actually have young people stepping up, challenging for and winning majors. No broflake special tournament necessary for their nextgen's.

If these people could manage to get off the couch and go out and watch some top juniors, let alone the pro's, it would open their eyes. These girls can play. This nonstop bs about comparing it to the men's game is old and boring.

Strycova is playing like she did last spring when she strung several good wins together. Crackin' that forehand.

Go Townsend! She had a really good result on late season ITF tourney. Good for her beating Mchale!
A few years back, when she was still with Zina, they practiced on the inside court next to us for two winters. It was great watching her every week working out. It's amazing the pace and work these girls can put on the ball. The sound of her forehand was scary. And Zina, older and a little out of shape these days, would stand at the net and volley those bombs back over and over again.
I swear we spent as much time watching them as we did playing!

Well cripey. Strycova playing lights out, up a break in the 2nd, serving for the match then goes off the boil completely!

And loses the 2nd.
