Completely forgot about Kerber! But then so has tennis ;)
I wonder what's the record for least previous champions in a draw?
Would have to be the two as Wimbledon had last year, can't image anything lower. 80''s, 90's and 2000's had a variety of slam champions still active whereas recent years with Serena's dominance have left it rather slim.

I'm trying to think of anytime there was less than 2. There had to be several years there where Rafa and Roger were the only ones on the men's side what with Del Potro's injuries and before Andy, Stan and Cilic got on the board. Kuzzy has been there barring some injuries, since 2004. Ivanovic, Stosur, Kvitova have been pretty regular participants as well. Don't remember when all of them were out of a slam at the same time. Did Stosur, Kvitova and Kuzzy miss last year's Wimbledon or are you counting them?

We were discussing slam specific. As in only Wimbledon champs or only Aus Open champs.

3rd seed Svitolina knocks out the defending champ and 2nd seed Karolina Pliskova 7-5 7-5 in the SF.

Will play Sasnovich for the Brisbane title tomorrow.

6-2 6-1 win over Sasnovich. 10th career title and if I calculated correctly, a little improvement in the rankings. Excellent week for Eli.

Now PLEASE keep this kind of form at the Majors.

Anyone know much about Bertens' partner in the Brisbane doubles final? She seems to be the fourth best on court by quite a margin and is behaving erratically on changes of ends. I can't ever remember seeing the name anywhere. Are Bertens / Schuurs a bit of a one-off pairing for this tournament?

Yay that's my girl!
Doubt I will get another win prediction right the entire year ;)

Svitolina big favourite for Melbourne?

yay or nay

Not big favourite but she is a major contender, two big factors before I would bet the draw and the speed of the courts. If they are superquick again in Melbourne it will favour the big bashers, Vanderwegh, Keys, Williams, Pliskova, possibly Georges, if they are medium quick then the best all rounders should prevail to which Svitolina and Wozniacki look the best, although Kerber again looks promising, never sure on Muguruza if her head is on if it is she always has a chance. Very happy myself Williams has pulled out.

If the courts are fair it should be a good tournament in the women's side, in women's Tennis on a quick court ballbashers tend to really boss it, in the men's more is needed but belt it has hard as you can on a quick deck is what you get ruling in the women's.

Auckland final looking very good.
#1 seed and WTA finals champ Wozniacki vs #2 seed and Zhuhai champ Gorges.

Gorges on a 13 match winning streak after her Moscow and Elite trophy wins to end 2017. Very dangerous.
Are next week's results going to have impact on the AO seeding or do we have it all confirmed at the end of this week?

Gorges on absolute fire. Been a while since a woman had a winning streak that long. I think Svitolina got to about 12 last year? 3 straight titles is very rare.
