I really like Medvedev’s backhand swing....he really brings it from back, to through! A bit different, seems to me. Looks nice. Anyway, at the speed he and Monfils are playing, I’ll be seeing it for hours!

Medvedev vs Monfils right now:

I don't like when Medvedev does that. Goes out wider to serve. I guess if it works it's fine, but it always looks like desperation to me.

Might be an unpopular opinion now that Medvedev is winning a few matches, but he never has truly impressed me.
He's had his moment in the sun this past month. Now he'll revert like all the young guys do and your opinion on him will quickly become the popular one again.

I just don't see the main weapons there for him to be a consistent force, especially at slams. Everything is just too average by ATP standards. He'll have hot runs of form, but not a lot to show for it IMO. I doubt he has the necessary endurance for 7 BO5 or just being on the tour week by week and year by year. Right now at least he looks too skinny and he's well over average height which won't help.

The one thing he has going for him is that the rest of his peers have very inconsistent games. He'll never beat someone like Novak or Rafa with his current skillset/gameplan, but he can definitely grind out the very hot/cold NextGen guys and win 500s and maybe even a Masters.

I was just thinking about that tbh. The one thing he has going for him is that he's pretty good at just keeping the ball in play. He might beat guys like Zverev and Coric like that on occasion, but unless there's a noticeable drop off from Novak and Rafa I don't see it, and the problem for him (and everyone else) is that Novak and Rafa both know that and will stick around as long as their bodies hold up which could be years yet.

Its not like the others can put a dent into Nadal or Djokovic when they're on top of their game

But we can see the tides starting to turn. The majors are a non-starter, but Rafa's missed a lot of Masters in recent times and Novak doesn't look like he's playing them quite the same as he did in his prime.

Clay is by far Medvedev's worst surface, so it doesn't even matter that Rafa's strongest there because they'll never even meet. But IW, Miami, Canada and Paris should all be in play for him in the coming years.

Should be interesting. You know Djokovic and Nadal will decline eventually from where they are now, but how long is it going to take? That's the million dollar question. The Masters are so up in the air if Novak and Rafa don't play them or not with the same intensity. I'd still consider guys in their late 20's early 30's bigger contenders than any younger guys in the HC Masters with the exception of probably Zverev. Delpo is still a better player than all of them if he plays well IMO, So are Wawrinka, Cilic, Anderson, and Nishikori.

And therein lies the problem. The 2nd tier guys below Novak and Rafa (and even Fed if we still include him) aren't Medvedev, Thiem, Zverev, Coric Shapo etc..... they're still the other guys in their 30's that have seemingly been around forever like Novak and Rafa have.

Yeah, I know. Case in point: Daniil losing to a 32 year old Monfils today, despite being in the best form of his life lately.
