2019 ATP 250 MercedesCup: General Discussion

Well, first time I’ve ever made one of these threads and don’t see how the poll options let me add all the players, but I’ll post it anyway. Grass tennis is here now and Stuttgart Open should be fun, albeit without the attraction of Roger Federer in the draw as he was last year. Tell us your predicted champ and enjoy the tennis!

Feliciano López completed the qualies with a straight set win over Bublik and joins Dreddy Brown, Viktor Galovic and teen Alexei Popyrin as the qualifying foursome. Their assignments are:

Brown vs Millman

Popyrin vs Raonic

López vs Pouille

Galovic vs Kudla

JoAli looks to be successful in continuing the very long slump for elder Zverev. JWT is up 6-3 3-0 double break.

Jo says to Mischa, “Aren’t you FINNISHED?” as he pulls a bagel from the oven. 6-3 6-0, 13 aces.

What a waste of a WC for Mischa...the guy is 1-12 this year and ended 2018 on a 8-match skid. The lone win was a retirement in the third set in Miami by teen Nicola Kuhn due to cramps.

Nice upset win for Kec over Kohlie, who usually offers tenacious defense of home turf. Kec awaits the winner of the rain delayed 1R match between his good friend Shapo and another German, Struff enuff.

Wow, if Kohlschreiber is faltering on grass against a mug on native soil, after a horrendous year so far, he's looking done.

Stick a fork in him.

Kec may surprise you in the very near future. I will agree it’s a bad loss but Kec’s disadvantage is lack of experience, especially on grass (second match ever). It’s not “mugginess.”
Three Canadians among the seeded players this year: Milos Raonic (6), Felix Auger-Aliassime (7) and Denis Shapovalov (8). Rooting for those 3 + Khachanov.
Game, set and match Struff: 7-5 6-4. This match was very winnable but Shapo just couldn't find a break, even though he had a couple opportunities.
Fairly comfortable win for FAA, capped off with a beauty of a service hold, 7-5 6-3. He's got Gilles Simon or Peter Gojowczyk in the next round.

Next up on Centre Court: Nick Kyrgios vs Matteo Berrettini.
Ugh, I can't stand Kyrgios, the way he struts around the court like nothing matters.

Speaking of which he's down a set to Berrettini but just held serve to start the 2nd set.
Lol, half-ass return attempt by Kyrgios gives Berrettini the win, 6-3 6-4.

What are Aussie fans' thoughts on this guy. Is he adored in Australia?
Other results:

Lucas Pouille (WC) def. Feliciano Lopez (Q) 6-3 3-6 7-6(7)
Denis Kudla def. Viktor Galovic (Q) 6-3 6-2

Gael Monfils vs Steve Johnson coming up on Centre Court.

Struff KO's Shapovalov 75 64
Berrettini d St Nick 63 64
Felix d Gulbis 75 63

Out of the young canucks,,Felix is the best one

3Fees :)

Wow did they really just show the court speed to be like 36???? That’s pretty slow for grass, yeah? Definitely slower than last year I think

Dustin Brown getting a win at an ATP event, its a good day. Lets hope he keeps his form up against Zverev, it could be quite entertaining.
That was his first ATP level match this year but his recent form at Challenger level included a title on clay. He’s always great fun on grass!
