Goffin in good form and with a knack for coming back in matches this week. Fed in 3 is my guess, but he'll need the 1st serve to work well or it could get messy.

Fed 800 points behind Djokovic in the race with a win. Hilarious how since Australia Fed has had a slightly better season - both have a Masters and a final and a Grand Slam SF but Fed has zero early exits. If Fed can perform a miracle and win Wimbledon he can have a chance at YE#1

Novak has a ton of points to defend from now until the USO too. But as you said, it would take a near-miracle for Fed to accomplish this and it's not entirely in his hands. His last realistic chance was 2017, I think.

This title match is tough to pick. On one side of the net, we have the far more talented Goffin, who has played against far more evolved players than Fed has. On the other side of the net, we have a peak Fed that is so lucky to be over 9 years older than Goffin.

I am taking peak Fed with his 9+ years of extra practice over Goffin in 3 tight sets.

To be fair, if their ages were reversed, I would take Goffin 6-0,6-0.

fed does not look convincing at all.

if goffin plays like he can. fed will likely lose in halle.

Federer's form has been very okay-ish...he will need to peak at the right time to win "W"

I'm a Fedfan so I have to go with my heart and take the maestro in 3, but honestly Goffin is such a nice guy I wouldn't be too upset if he won.

Lets' see... Goffin has beaten Fed once in 8 times, and now playing on Fed's best surface. Easy straight set win for Fed.

Somebody needs to unearth that match thread because 98% of us Roger fans called this as an "easy straight setter for Fed."
A small adjustment:
If Fed takes the first set and an early break in the second set (he never managed to do the latter in 2017) tonight, we can simply turnoff the TV.

Novak is really Fed's only obstacle to Wimbledon. Take Novak out of the equation, Fed is favorite on grass against everyone Nadal included.

So if Novak somehow gets upset, Fed could get Wimbledon and Year end number 1. Can you imagine how incredible that would be at 38. Wow.

Of course Djokovic would not likely be upset by a random player but lightning could strike. Or he might be injured or get sick or have a fight with his wife and somehow lose. That's what Fed said at the F.O, that is why you play, as there is always a chance.

As a matter of record, Federer and Djokovic have only met 3 times at Wimbledon: 2012 semi-final which Federer won, 2014 and 2015 finals both of which Djokovic won.

How about the fact that Goffin is a significantly better player than Herbert?

Safe money's still on Roger to win. But Goffin is not going to let Fed win 3 or 4 straight love holds like Herbert did yesterday.
On grass they actually have very similar records. And Herbert has been playing his best tennis lately why Goffin is in a slump.

Can't underestimate Goffin. He's a solid professional out there who is playing much better tennis right now than he has in a while. Fed will have to capitalize on return and BP. Of course take of his serve. Could be a little like the RBA match if Fed lets him in. He has to close the door or Goffin will hang around. Voting Fed in 2, but can easily go 3 as we all should know by now. Let's get that #2 and #102 today.

how does federer get no 2 by winning halle. even if he wins he'll have less points than nadal, according to atp live rankings. unless nadal is losing points on grass

I thought he meant #2 tournament win for the calendar year 2019? Or maybe #2 in the seedings for Wimbledon? It is mathematically impossible for Federer to move up to #2 in the ATP rankings before Wimbledon, Rafa is far enough ahead of him in points to keep him safe until after Wimbledon for that to happen.
