Hmm, Fed got the most wins last year but I guess NoMercy's corrections had grass wins. Needs 5 more wins to be #1 again
Now everyone together:

IMAGINE 3/4 MAJORS ON GRASS.

Have to say, number 2 seed is good news. But it’s nothing compared to winning the title today. I’m not sure why my fellow Fed fans are crowing about a draw perk that (last year being a good example) could be completely irrelevant.

Let’s be clear; there are a fair few players that could beat Fed at Wimbledon now that he’s approaching 38.

I’m celebrating today’s title and today’s title only.

@MeatTornado see not "all" Fed fans are jumping up n down for #2. I think you went a lil overboard there.

Dude, he didn't beat anyone and lost sets. He needs to prove himself against the elite.

Hahahahaha.

Here comes another: Millman (QFs of the last USO), Tsonga (double Wimbledon SFst and Queens finalist), the QFst of the last AO (and a current top 20), and now Goffin.

Really, the "elite" that plays at the moment in the Queens finals are Lopez (#113, 37 years old against which Federer has a perfect 13-0 record) and Simon (current #38, 34 years old, whose last win against Federer was in 2008).

8-)

#102, wonderful. Hopefully Fed will have a great run at Wimbledon. Not sure how many more chances he will have.

My wife has no idea what RG means. She has no idea what Roland Garros is. I just asked her. She does not watch tennis, doesn't give a damn about tennis. Thinks it's just boring.

But she knows what Wimbledon is.

Breakfast at Roland Garros, anyone?
She's not alone. I know many people who think tennis is played once a year at Wimbledon.

Yup. ;) Most people have heard of the USO Tennis Tournament, but if you say Forest Hills or Flushing Meadow, you'll just get a blank look.

I know two people - repeat two people - who ever watch tennis. Even my brother, who used to play it, only watches baseball, basketball and football. I think all of us who write here are a strange group of fanatic fans!

Americans follow weird sports.

I also follow Track and Field (the running mostly). Similarly, almost everyone I know thinks track and field happens every four years at the Olympics. They have no idea of the championship events that happen throughout every single year.

Didn't watch the final live.
Just finished watching after downloading it.

Federer did enough to win. Serving was good today. but returning and baseline game -- while had flashes of brilliance -- were not at slam winning level. That half-volley pickup at 3-1 in the TB was great though !
Goffin played well in the 1st set, but went down in the 2nd set. DFs cost him badly in the 2nd set.

Congrats to Fed on 10th title at Halle ! That's an excellent achievement - 10 titles at one tournament.

Gibraltar may tumble
They're only made of clay..."

How can anyone think that? Which professional athlete would compete only once every 4 years? Who would practice for one or two races in 4 years?

As big as the Olympics are, that wouldn’t be worth it. Also how can anyone even think the Olympics could be that big in the first place when their sports don’t play any role apart from the games itself.

Track and field was the first sport I was a fan of as a little kindergarten child (Barcelona Olympics 1992), even one year before I discovered tennis. Who is the fastest, can jump the longest or highest was always a pure basic sport for me, and I loved it. The many doping scandals let my interest decrease around 2000, but it somewhat came back with Bolt.

I haven’t watched one complete baseball or American football match in my life. Those are irrelevant niche sports for me (no offense to the fans though of course).

I've watched a lot of (American) football and baseball, but have long had a love for track and field. For me, it was Mary Decker and the legacy of Steve Prefontaine that really lit my fire for T&F. And then ultimately the likes of Hicham El Guerrouj. The constant doping killed me, too. Especially when Mary Decker tested positive because she was one of my heroes early on.

I really wanted to get super excited about the shorter distance runners and sprinters, but the constant doping just killed me for years. The moment I would actually start to get excited about someone... they would get caught doping. Even on the women's side.

I'm starting to try to get involved in the shorter distance and sprinters again. I hope I'm not disappointed, yet again. T&F at the shorter distances is really getting exciting.

I started as a sprint fan mainly and Carl Lewis was my first sports idol (although I’m from Germany, but nationality was never important for me in sports). I was 6 years old then and only a few years later I came to the conclusion that Lewis isn’t really a likeable person who also cheated in 1988. That’s no excuse for Ben Johnson of course, but somehow Johnson was a scapegoat IMO and Lewis wasn’t much better.

The mid-90s were a golden era of middle- and long-distance running then. I especially liked the world-record attempts at big meetings with El Guerrouj, Gebrselassie, Komen and later Bekele. Nowadays there are not many such attempts anymore and the top athletes mostly avoid each other until the championships. But at least I’m happy that on the women’s side some of those suspect Chinese records of 1993 have been beaten in the past few years.

Anyway, nice that you also like T&F. That said, tennis is clearly my #1 as of now, but who knows what happens when the Big 3 are gone...
