John has BP after a big off forehand...

John anticipating the kicker 2nd serve to the backhand (what Nick has been doing all match), runs around, but Nick responds with a 2nd serve ace down the middle.

Big John cannot believe it.

Thoughts on Zverev's play?
I only saw up to 4-3 1st set IIRC, will have to watch the remainder on replay later on. What I saw was quite dominating though, powerful and proactive tennis off both wings coupled with a extremely reliable service base. I don't care that his serve isn't the most accurate, that's not what his service games are about, the criticism isn't really warranted IMO.

Can't stand Isner winning at the best of times. Against the people's champ?

What a deplorable outcome that would be.

Come on Nick find a way to get it done and take your beating in the final like a man.

Would set up a Miami Open rematch if Isner takes this. Have to cheer for JI if that occurs.

Noticed in the last couple matches Kyrgios has a very compact service motion and a short knee bend. Is it usually like this, or is he just not feeling it?

Isner is at least keyed in on return and has been for well over a set now. Kyrgios, not so much.

Knew it was a mistake to tune into an Isner match.

MP with a serve for it to Nick.

Nick pushes, Isner forces an error.

*7-7 Kyrgios serve

Kyrgios MP#3 8-7**

Unreal MP. WTF was that?

Insane.

Isner's effort to stay in that point was unreal and yet Kyrgios comes up with the dead winner.

Zverev-Kyrgios final.

Zverev in straights.

WOW. What a heck of a match. Yet another epic three sets. I hope Nick keeps it up. That half drop backhand volley on MP (or whatever you'd call it) was great feel from Nick.

Kyrgios through with another 3-setter. That was a nice match. Finishing off with an excellent point.
50w to 22 UEs for Kyrgios
50w to 24 UEs for Isner.

lol, if there was ever a time where both players wanted to hurry up and get on with the TB, it was the 3rd set of this match.

Great match, I could never imagine these two to play at this level against each other...

And such a beautiful atmosphere - slightly friendlier handshake than the one with Rafa :giggle:

Why can't Kyrios play like this in every Major slam ? if he did he would already have 6-8 majors by now and well on his way to breaking all the records

Nick should be thinking how to bottle whatever it is that is driving him here and apply it to his career from here onwards. It cannot be simply proving others wrong. That is not ambition.

It might just be more of the standard Kyrgios getting up for the big time matches. He fell far enough down the rankings to have to play three both extremely high quality and big name opponents in a row and we know how much he loves those matches. And up next yet another big scalp, Zverev. Can't remember the last time someone had to go through four former or current top 10 players to win a grand slam title, let alone a 500. Maybe Fed in AO17?
