Unfortunately there's always going to be a section of fans (of whichever player) who will cheer for ANY point their hero wins no matter HOW he obtains it. They do not speak for the vast majority of decent fans, they just make themselves louder and more conspicuous which is not the same. Sadly they are a fact of life wherever you go and no player should allow himself to be put off by them.
 
I’m not a fan of all these “djokovic was not at his best” posts. The fact is if Fed is serving phenomenal at 80 percent hitting his spots the match is dictated by him. There is nothing Djokovic can do about that serving despite how great his return is. It’s no different than Sampras at Wimby 99. Djokovic takes control when Feds serve drops which is expected as Fed is ancient.

Huh? That aint anywhere normal. This is not some one off thing. These are consistent rotten trash.

I don't like cheering double faults, but Novak's celebratory customs do not invite sympathy, and since his self-dubbed SPARTAn performance in the '15 USO final, I say let him take it on the chin as he's supposed to. Praising NOLE's epeak mental strength yet at the same time complaining about the grossly unfair crowd treatment of him is an attempt to have your bagel and eat it too.

That's just what I've been saying. They are ALWAYS going to be there but they don't speak for the majority of decent fans. Every sport has its quota of trashy fans and tennis is, sadly, no exception.

Rafa has to beat Stefanos tomorrow, which is not a sure thing and then hope Medvedev is in a good mood.

Yes lovely! Edberg is my favorite player since I am Swedish and grew up with him and Federer is my favorite today.
 
One accidental win over tired grumpy Djokovic and everybody's raving about Fed's comeback already. And Thiem didn't even tried to win against Berretini. What a circus.

Really? You're calling me out lol? I was actually in the minority that was giving Fed a chance! I didn't think his sloppy first 2 rounds were indicative of what we'd see from him. The part I was wrong about is that every time Fed raises his level, Novak raises his to match or exceed it. That part didn't happen today.

Should have just read the match thread, you'd have thought Djokovic won 6-0 6-1, went to bed sad, then figured out Fed won...eventually..

I wouldn't wanna act nice towards your ilk so I'm happy you think of me that way lmao thinking I'm here to gain brownie points from the #1 cancerous fan base Tennis has ever come across. Once Federer retires the better at least then he can take his fan base away with him.

Never root for the guy again, even if it means screwing up Nadal. I knew I'd have to deal with his dumb fans after.

You wouldn't have hated them had Djokovic won. The fans were a hundred times worse at Wimbledon (a normally staid environment) and no Djkokovic fan was b-tching about the fans then. Come on, admit it.

This season will not be considered one of the best of Djokovic's career. He did win two majors and did well from time to time, but also lost a lot more matches than expected. I wonder what the internal excuse will be?

Fed can face zverev in semis.
It can happen only if
Zverev beats Medvedev in straight sets like 6-2 6-2 for eg.
Nadal beats tispitas in striaght sets.

Then all 3 tied up at 2 wins.
Tispitas and Zverev will have 4-2 set wins and progress. Nadal will have 4-3 and don't progress
Among tispitas and Zverev who ever has better game wins will be #1 of group

Yes that's the gist of it. Federer was real determined and played flawless for 2 sets.

Fed has been close enough on other courts too, just hasn't broken his way like many of his recent matches with Nadal have. That's the beauty (and cruelty) of sport.

This should do tons for his belief though. This dude may not be done winning another slam yet. Incredible.

He still might not, but today is a good day to be a Fed fan.
 
The roller coaster of being a Fed fan is something else. Sometimes, Federer can look horrendous. But today, he played his best match since 2017 IW, IMHO. Here’s why:

Federer’s return game was incredible today. Djoker got 74%of his first serves in. And yet, Federer returned a massive percentage of them. Federer likely had as many first-serve return winners as Djoker had aces. Fed’s return game was the best since 2017 IW

Federer used his backhand slice effectively to set up the backhand smash. Fed had a great mixture of backhand slice and backhand topspin smashes.

Fed’s forehand was quite accurate. This was vintage Fed here, except with less pace.

And lastly, Federer was in the single digits for unforced errors.

Fed’s overall game was incredible.

Now granted, Fed’s form at his old age can change on a dime. I expect nothing from Fed in the next match. I said the same thing at the USO going into the match with Dimitrov. But given his age, his performance today was a masterpiece. And I will take that. This tourney has been a success for Fed, regardless of what happens at the next match. That’s 16 semis in 17 appearance at this event.

Congrats to Fed for a big upset win. He played great.

How often do we need to go through this? In case of two-way tie h2h decides. So Tsits would still win group ahead of Z. Game percentage won't come into it here.
