I disagree. Djokovic has aged, but he is NOT playing worse. In fact his serve + forehand are better than ever. Not to mention better touch game, better point construction, more aggression and more guile.

Nah, Novak is clearly worse (both visually and statistically) in every main component (serve, return, FH, BH, movement) except the serve. Although his movement hasn't declined that much yet, impressively.

Good post. But I still think that his forehand is better than before. His serve is also much much better.
The weirdest thing is that unlike Fed and Nadal - Novak has had no meaningful decline in movement. He is almost as fast and as explosive as ever - even nearing 33.
I think it's got to do with Novak's SUPER thin frame and his gluten free diet. No wonder he was making claims that he intends to play longer than Fed.
Imagine a 40 year old Novak running around like a spring chicken and still winning slams? Haha.

Strangely, Thiem has NO READ on Novak's serve. Barely getting the ball back in play. Also misjudging the direction.
Could be a tough one for the Austrian. This is not clay, where he had more time.

In the first game Novak targeted the Thiem forehand return on all serves, next game goes to the Tee serve on deuce court both times.

Djo's consistency has obviously declined. When he's on, he moves close to prime level, admittedly, but when he's off, slowed down reactions pave the way for losses as we've seen, in BO3 mostly though.

I agree. But he's still DEADLY in slams. It took a peaking Thiem + bad weather and he still lost only in 5 sets in Paris. In UsOpen - it took his nemesis Stanimal + injured shoulder - to lose.
He's won 4 of the last 6 slams.
He's peaking in slams and my question is that who is going to stop him - if he remains fit. His tennis is clearly superior to Fedal.

Going to take a big performance to beat Nole at this tournament, Thiem nowhere near he needs to be.

Novak has anticipated the off forehand from Thiem on a short ball, holding his ground every time. Thiem won two points with inside in forehands, lost the other two when going inside out, oops
