Will Djokovic equal the M1000 record and the h2h against Tsitsipas or will Tsitsipas take his first M1000 title?

I think it will go 3 sets! Not confident Djoko wins! Hope he does but it’s gonna be very tough match. Tsitsipas is the real deal. Djoko getting back to his best and Tsitsipas is close to making a major breakthrough. Old generation vs new generation. Bring it on!

You're ultra quick with these match threads. Did you begin preparing this finals thread when Nads botched that volley to go a double break down?

"If you go down double break you are dead"
I create match threads usually during the third set (or if the it's clear straight set win then in the second). I don't think Tsitsipas had broken RAFA in the third yet. Sometimes I have to change the poll options if the losing player manages to win, hehe.

Djokovic to care about the Masters again in 2. :p

He's got to get a good read on the youngster's serve. I remember he was poor at that in their Toronto meeting.

Hopefully Novak wins it. Tsitsipas will get his moments sooner or later.

Wow, nobody gives a chance to Stefanos? He played a great match today, and I did not see Djokovic's form imperial or whatever against Thiem, who got back to Thiem station.
I think this match will be really tight, I thought Nadal would spank him today, but I was completely wrong. Djokovic wont have an easy match, the kid is fearless for what I see

Thiem needs time to set up his backhand shots but Djokovic usually hurries him on that wing. I feel like Tsitsipas can handle Djokovic's groundstrokes on the backhand side better than Thiem. And he covers the court very well. It is an interesting match up and I am sure Djokovic did not forget losing to him at Rogers Cup. So Djokovic will bring his A game. But in any case, Tsitsipas would give a fight and he may even end up securing his maiden Masters..

I hope Djokovic wins. Tsitispas is "good" but he scares me...gives me nightmares to look at him - and he looks way older than 20 years old too.

I can't picture what a Tsitsipas victory looks like here. He's neither quicker nor a bigger ball-striker than Theim so what is he bringing that will stop Djokovic?

Tsitsipas is better than he was last year, but he defeated a WOEFUL Djokovic to win in Toronto last year. No chance Djokovic plays that poorly again.

Reach and height... Changes the court geometry a bit. He will have the ball at the ideal height in his striking zone more often than not. The question is does he have the athleticism to take advantage of that and take control of rallies?

Djokovic 6-0 6-1 or something close to this. And I'm not joking at all.

You surely jest. I would say 6-2, 6-4 for Novak. He will take out TsiTsipas's legs.

Let's be honest, at the end of the day, TsiTsipas does NOT have enough game to challenge Novak. Thiem was far more dangerous.

People will overrate TsiTsipas because he beat an aging, abysmal and spoked Nadal. But the fact is Thiem/Djokovic would have also beaten Nadal and they wouldn't have lost a set unlike TsiTsipas.

Tsi has already beaten Djok so we know he can do it. However, beating 2 or more Big 3 in a row is a tough task. I predict Djok in 3, but Tsi in 3 also is possible.

Tsitsi overcame by far his hardest match up against Nadal. Should be a routine win against Novak. Novak doesn't do anything to make Tsitsipas uncomfortable. The only advantage Novak will have is experience.

Tsitsipas already beat an in-form Djokovic at the Toronto masters last year, yet some here are saying he has no chance against Djokovic. Makes a lot of sense.

Tsitsipas' game also seems pretty well-suited for clay, and it will maybe help him that the conditions in Madrid are faster than on other clay tournaments. It should be a bit easier for him to hit through Nole's defense here, no?

Game-wise , Thiem is better on clay. But Tsitsipas has a clearly better head and is normally very clutch.
Djokovic will have to outplay Tsitsipas clearly. If he gets into a dog-fight, Tsitsipas has a knack of taking a lot of those matches, being really clutch.

Which is exactly why he was broken 5 times under pressure against arguably the worst ever version of Nadal.

Read what I wrote again.

Nadal outplayed him clearly in the 2nd set. (breaking him twice and not being broken)

The 1st set b/w Nadal/Tsitsipas could've gone either ways. Tsitsipas managed to clutch that one out.

Djokovic doesn't care about M1000s, as we all know.

This allows him to play freely, so he might win today.

Stefanos is an extremely smart and poised player and in this regard he's very different to Thiem. But yeah, I should imagine that right now Thiem is the greater threat on clay in general.

Let's see, but Stefanos is a very cerebral player.

He's also good at donating Masters 1000 wins to guys like Zverev and Karen (LOL). Perhaps he'll throw a bone and mug it up a bit, allowing Tsitsipas to avoid the bakery.

Need some of this...

The Karen one was a tactical curse, Djokovoodoo style.
