Dude he didn't give much of a damn for IW-Miami, for real. Also noticed he looks a bit smaller and frankly these losses were expected to me. He's only going to start getting serious now again that clay is on the horizon. I have precisely zero concern about these results.

It's still a missed opportunity though because he could have padded his ranking. I really don't think IW and Miami titles add a whole lot to his legacy at this point but those ranking points were vital. He just threw them all away. Oh well. I just hate I wasted my afternoon.

If anything can be called a good loss it is this.

I bet Novak is relieved to be able to get some rest and then go strong on clay. This might be the key to his performance on the dirt and maybe winning 2nd French Open crown.

Going deep in Miami with long matches would have made Novak more tired and reduced his chances.

Him winning Miami would also be great confidence booster for RG.

So he is better off - whether he wins or loses.. LOL

But he gained lot of points in both tournaments which was your main point, correct? He gained virtually nothing in the sunshine double this year.
My point was that it's not surprising to see him laying eggs now since he has been doing that recent tournaments as well and how he lost those big matches. Sure these have been more conserning given the opponents but still

RBA returning everything. Maybe Novak could play more rushing to the net, but it's over now, RBA just doesn't suit him.

Novak need not worry about ranking points really. Nadal will also lose a lot and there is no one else even close or threatening to take the spot.

It is the weak era from 2014, remember ???

Yea London was a shock considering the way he played before the final. Now he just looks listless and disinterested. He also looks a bit smaller than he did in Australia. He needs to get his head back in the game.
In all seriousness, maybe it's just hard to stay motivated. We know he's struggled with that before.

When you're dominating the majors, you just embarrassed your biggest rival in a final, and you're 2nd/3rd biggest rivals are nowhere to be found, where's the motivation? I expect to see a completely different guy once Paris rolls around and he has a chance at history.

time for Fred to lose to some lame next genner in the final

Bautista Agut is a really tricky player. Comfortable with taking the initiative as well as defending. Fascinating that he beat Djokovic from a set and a break down two times in a row. I hope his road doesn't end here because he is quality.

Regarding Novak I have no doubt he will be playing well again very soon. He won the most important title in these opening three months of 2019 so I am sure he won't be too disappointed. The only message I have for him is... Come to Barcelona! :p

No you commented on me saying Novak would gain points this year at the sunshine double and that didn't turn out to be true. You are using tournaments like Paris and WTF to make a point that you saw it coming but he gained about 1400 points in those tournaments and didn't lose in the 3rd and 4th rounds. That's what I disagree with in regards to what you are saying. Losing in the final of Paris and WTF is not the same as his results in these last two tournaments.

So did Novak tank today?

No tanking is pushing it. No top player tanks.
It's just that he played at half his usual intensity. He didn't dig deep, didn't raise his game etc etc.
Who cares about Miami basically, when there is bigger fish to fry for Novak.

Lol. This is total sloppy careless play. If he crashes out here and his #1 ranking is challenged in a few months, then he has no one to blame but himself for not being in better form to distance himself in the rankings.
I still think he is pretty safe for a while. Nadal obviously has a lot to defend on clay, then deep runs at the last two Slams and Canada title, Zverev has to do well during the spring again just to be in contention soon. There isn't just pressure on Djokovic to do well in terms of the number one ranking.
