I bet in Sampras' days people didn't play as bad as this so called GOAT era. Can anyone imagine Sampras, Agassi, Courier or Becker having such a wimpy approach?

Mental greatness on show here?
Sampras didn't win as many masters or even close to big 3 so your point holds no water.

Why go for indexing when he can go for biggest award in tennis history I.e slam counts?
I like your philosophy. Contentment is convincing yourself that what you can't have is not worth having. It gives you peace of mind. Triple undecima is beyond anyone's wildest dreams.

Perhaps. But I have never seen him play like a wussy. Saying that, Djoko seems like a sporting loser and not a sore one.

Also, I have now heard it all. It is good that Djoko lost...it was all in his plan so that he can win the French. We may as well say that he placed a online bet against himself.

Meh Djokovic has won more than double of ms than Sampras did , Sampras was retired at this. Atleast Djokovic is playing and dominating slams. Give him a break.

You're completely deluded if you think at this age Nole is gonna take masters seriously especially when he has won every single ms and he is doing well in slams. Why don't you take Nole record in bo3 and slams in since Wimbledon.

I don't need to look at his record to already know the OBVIOUS. Aside from knowing that a yellow ball and a racquet are involved, you don't know tennis. Your argument is absolutely dumb. Please, don't breed and drag down the gene pool.

Lmao, you lost the argument when you r3sort to insult . Why your hero Nadal doesn't play and give his best in every tournament?he makes bs excuse to prepare himself for slams and you think Djokovic should give 100% in every single tournaments? See the hypocrisy , Nadal fanatic.

Um, if you think I'm a Nadal-fanatic. Just lol. Whatever.

I kinda said it tongue in cheek. It's just that people are not really realizing how great the past eras were. Some are too blinded by the recency effect sometimes. So it's frustrating when one sees junk and people are not recognizing it. Djoko is great but in general the tour seems so mentally dysfunctional.

That era was completely different from surface to racquet wise and i don't think in Sampras era (in 90s)any player could've more slams than him but I also believe Sampras would not win as much in this era. A man is a product of his time and place this is why Goat debates are useless. We can only agree on best player of a given generation .

I agree that Sampras could have less slams in this era...but I also believe anyone, including Federer would have less slams with Sampras in it. Or even someone like Agassi for that matter.

I think people are under-estimating the psychological impact of the straight set drubbing that Novak gave to Nadal at the AO. Basically that match eliminates Nadal as a rival for Novak in general.

Not sure about this. Nadal on clay is a different person mentally.

Novak might win but I don't think the AO Final result will have anything to do with it.

I think that the Clay masters leading up to RG will be very important. I think Rafa needs matches against Djokovic before the RG to ease any possible mental block that he might have right now.

Djokovic wasnt his usual self , he had breaks ,no dice, and so forth,,hopefully he'll get well, as too clay court season, he is defending two slams and 2 M1k's,, I dont think he'll go all out on clay and will probably just be satisfied to get more wins than he did in 2018, he did not start playing well until grass court season due to injury fix up.

Cheers

Since last completing the Sunshine Double in 2016, Djokovic has failed to reach the quarter-finals at either event. He commented afterwards that he needs to prepare better for these 2 tournaments in the future. I presume he means by again playing at least 1 of the hardcourt 500 events in between the AO and IW eg. Dubai.

It would be better to play Acapulco if the goal is to prepare for the Sunshine Double.

1) The conditions are slower in Acapulco and more closely resemble the sunshine courts than Dubai does.
2) Its already in NA, so it would be better for travel prep rather than going half way around the world.

Dubai is probably the better choice financially (in regards to appearance fees), but that should be marginal for Novak at this point.
