ouch, Tsistipas the worst quarter and Thiem the worse semi for Djokovic. Gonna be tough to get through this draw and have enough in the tank to beat Nadal in the final. Hopefully he doesn't put Kohlschreiber over again prior to all of that :-D

There goes my vote for 'aggressive Monfils'. Hope he gets well soon.

I was deciding between FAA (looon shot) and Teem. I picked Teem.

My 2 cents :

First SF : Tsitsipas VS Thiem
Second SF : Nadal VS Auger Aliassime

We'll see but I feel that Djokovic will not be ready yet. Too much vacations the past few weeks IMO.

Idk about that. Zverev has just had problems closing out potential victories against RAFA IW 2016 and Rome 2018 and went to distance in AO 2017 while two of wins against Fed where when Fed was injured. ATP Finals was a legit win but Fed was a bit shaky then.

Excuserer!

>goes onto the ATP website
>ATP claims that Rafa has a 'challenging' draw
>look at the actual draw
>just a bunch of byes
>12th title confirmed

Joking aside upon first glance literally no one is gonna stand in Rafa's way. The only thing that I would bat an eyelid for might be FAA if he gets to the semis.

Djokovic should at least expect to get to the SF, otherwise it can be a slight cause of concern. Realistically he should beat Thiem too.

Oh and Zed can wave goodbye to his SF points now.

Did you even watch late 2018 Fedr? Coric easily beat him at Shanghai18 SF, right after Fedr beat a good Nishikori in the QF. Then, at WTF18, a terrible Nishikori managed to beat Fedr in RR play, and then Nishikori lost 0-6 1-6 to Anderson in his next match. Fedr then recovered a bit of form to beat Anderson/Thiem before facing Z. Z was lucky he got away with the stop play during the 2nd set TB bc of a ball (It wasn't his call to make and could've lost that point for stopping play).
Oh yeah, 'shaky' is definitely the word for Fedr at WTF18, but it was a legit win for Z instead of the wins over backerer at Montreal17 finals, and kneerer at Halle16.

It was a little playful, but the fans of tennis players should accept if their favorite player loses, congratulate the opponent and move on, it's just a tennis match, it's not that our self-esteem is hit, is it?

;).

I did detect possible sarcasm in your previous post, but I just wanted to set it straight, just to be sure ;).

Yes, a loss is a loss, but facts are facts. Of the 3 Z wins, the 2nd win was when Fedr could barely walk for most of set2 in Montreal17 finals, and his back was acting up for half of Montreal17 (a year later, he confirmed that after Montreal17 finals, he could 'barely' make it down a flight of steps to see the Cinci17 doctor/physio before Cinci17 started). The 1st win by Z, Fedr played Z just a few matches before calling off half of 2016 after his next tournment at WB16 bc of his post-knee recovery.

It was what it was. And Clay is upon us, so you must be ecstatic, no? :)

Believe it or not, I enjoy all surfaces that are in tennis, I'm not one of those who like to discredit or speak bad of a certain surface just because it is not "aesthetic" or "very defensive" type of tennis.
I like it as it is, of course you can improve and accelerate a little grand slams like Wimbledon or the US Open to promote the art of serve and the volley, but that depends on a consensus between the authorities that govern the sport and the players themselves .
I still believe that Wimbledon is the pinnacle of tennis, but I think that the other 3 majors do not have to be judged as "inferior" tournaments, which is a serious mistake.
And clay and especially RG, is a very important part of maintaining a living tradition in this sport.
The rest is envy and ignorance.

Personally, I think it's ridiculous that tournaments can change the speed of courts from year to year at will. I mean, it's ok to 'change' it, but keep it for a very long time (many years) bc of 'reasons'. Don't go from faster this year, slower next year, even slower in the 3rd year, then faster in the 4th year, etc. It's stupid and unprofessional and makes the tournaments' 'history' a joke! Imagine if they make RG clay super fast in 2019, then super slow in 2020, then medium slow in 2021. Let's hope not, but they certainly 'can' do so, with lack of concrete rules. I don't hold it against Rafa, but look how Ellison, a known huge Rafa fan, keeps slowing down IW for years now. He likely 'thinks' that it helps Rafa. If so, that's blatant favoritism. It's an international and 'public' competition, not your private tournament for your own amusement (ironic, bc it sort of IS Ellison's, lol!). Just pick ONE speed and set of conditions, and keep it that way as best you can. Sheesh.

Clay season is amazing.
Here we see which tennis players have the ability to play tennis rallies, and servebots will be confused of how they should play.

Nadal, Djokovic, Thiem, Federer are probably the 4 players that a lot will be interested most in this clay season. Nadal fits on clay, Djokovic who is at the moment better than Nadal and is #1, is to play on his worst surface, but maybe he can still win? Thiem who made a RG final last year, has yet to not choke a clay Masters 1000, but now that he has won 1 on Hard, it could be the year he finally wins a clay masters. Federer is playing amazing tennis, and he is returning to clay for the first time since 2016, but will, if his schedule doesn't change, first play in Madrid.

But who will win this Monte Carlo Masters 2019?

Seeds are

1. Novak Djokovic
2. Rafael Nadal
3. Alexander Zverev
4. Dominic Thiem
5. Kei Nishikori
6. Stefanos Tsitsipas
7. Marin Cilic
8. Karen Khachanov
9. Borna Coric
10. Danill Medvedev
11. Marco Cecchinato
12. Nikoloz Basilashvili
13. Fabio Fognini
14. Gael Monfils
15. Denis Shapovalov
16. David goffin

Here is the draw if you want to put it in your OP:

Good point, but does it matter? Apparently Fedr can lose to anyone in the top100 being the clay MUG that he is... according to TTW ;).
He can, but it matters more for the situation should he play well he only needs to win 2 matches to set up a possible Fedal or Fedovic QF.

Medvedev can beat Tsitsipas. Stefanos has 0:3 H2H with him, bad matchup. But yes, it's a difficult draw for Djoker.

I voted "other", Fedr, he is the moral winner anyway.

Jokes aside, must be hoping for a tough battle between Joe and Raph in the final here...

I think he's always 'done', his AO17 was a mega fluke run (had to save MP against Isner in the first round iirc), a pure S&V player just can't survive on the tour in this era.

Pospisil has never won a match on Clay at ATP lvl

Djokovic playing doubles AGAIN. This time with brother Marko. Kohli FTW.

Seriously though, Kohlschreiber has never failed to take atleast a set off of Djokovic in all of their clay encounters.

I agree that this is the tournament where playing doubles makes the least sense.

But then he's playing with Marko so the chances of going far are a lot smaller than if he played with Fognini again.

Haven't ever watched Marko play doubles. They should communicate well being brothers. I doubt it will translate into a deep run though. Djokovic and Fognini were a good team.
