Welcome to our 2nd Slam Event of the 2019 ATP Sudden Death League season:

Roland Garros - The 2019 French Open
Paris, France
26 May - 9 June, 2019

(Outdoor) Clay

RULES (Slam/Major Event):

1. In the Main Draw, you pick one player who you think is going to win. It's a knock out-system: if the player you picked wins, you're through to the next round. If he loses, you're out.

2. You pick one player per "half" of the draw for the first 3 rounds. From the Round of 16 (R4) onwards, pick by the round - this will mean making 10 correct picks in total to win the title.

3. 3. You can pick a player only ONCE. Obviously it's important to make smart choices in order to get far. If you have no picks remaining, you're eliminated from the competition.

4. You cannot pick a player from a match that has started already.

5. You cannot advance to the next round via a walkover since it is hard to know exactly when someone announced they were pulling out HOWEVER this rule does not apply once you reach the semifinals

6. Since you cannot win a match by a walkover it is highly advised that you make a back-up pick to your main pick - when listing your picks make sure you specify which is your back-up.

7. If the player you picked retires during the match, you're out. If he retires before the match, your back-up pick will be used.

8. If the opponent of the person you picked withdraws and is replaced by a lucky loser your original pick will stand unless you specifically change it. Usual caveat with this rule and the consideration of BU applies.

9. NEVER edit your pick. If you want to change your pick, please quote your old pick and choose a new player. Edited posts will not be taken into consideration.

Picks for Slams will be structured as follows:

Pick 1: Round 1 Half 1
Pick 2: Round 1 Half 2
Pick 3: Round 2 Half 1
Pick 4: Round 2 Half 2
Pick 5: Round 3 Half 1
Pick 6: Round 3 Half 2
Pick 7: Round of 16 (Round 4)
Pick 8: Quarter-Finals
Pick 9: Semi-Finals
Pick 10: The Final

This usually depends on which half of the draw plays first - this will be revealed by Saturday 26th May at the latest. Bear in mind that this tournament has a Sunday start.

I miss playing the SDL. I have had a very hectic schedule this year and not been able to follow tournaments. The Nadal-Djokovic Rome final was the first complete match I have watched this year. It is that bad.

Good luck to everyone playing this. (y)

Sorry I'm new to all of this.
If I understand correctly, you need to pick your tournie winner before they play their first match?
You need to pick your round 2 winner before they play their round 2 match?
You need to pick your round 1/4 final winner before they play their 1/4 final match?

Hi, welcome to the SDL
It actually works the other way round, you need to start from R1 and work your way through the draw - so for instance there are 64 matches in Round 1, 32 in the Top Half and 32 in the Bottom Half.

For each Half of the draw - you pick a winner from 1 of the matches that is being played and you advance to the next pick if you are correct, e.g. if Nadal plays Verdasco in R1 Bottom Half, you pick Nadal and he wins, then you go through to the next stage.

For the first 3 rounds the picks are dependent on which half of the draw is scheduled to play first. So if the Bottom Half plays first your initial pick needs to come from one of the Bottom Half matches, then you follow this pick structure: R1 Bottom Half, R1 Top Half, R2 Bottom Half, R2 Top Half, R3 Bottom, R3 Top.

In order to advance to Round 4 (i.e. Round of 16), you need to make 6 correct picks in a row - so effectively you need to correctly pick winners from 6 different matches. You also cannot repeat a player. If you pick Nadal to win his 1st Round match, you cannot pick him again for the rest of the tournament. This is why it is important to make "smart" picks early on in the tournament to give yourself the best chance of getting as far as possible.

Once you reach Round 4, you make 1 pick per round from the players you have left at your disposal. (Round 4 has 8 matches, QF has 4, SF has 2). If you manage to make it all the way to the Final pick you'll have either run out picks (cannot repeat a player) or you'll have a default pick, which would be the player that you have not picked at any previous stage in the tournament.

Hope the above makes things a little clearer, apologies if it is a tad long-winded
