2019 ATP Sudden Death League: Paris

How does this look now Schwartzman and Isner have taken the bulk out?
With that, it's official -

@I Am Finnish, @Locotus, @TripleATeam, and @Beacon Hill have all also qualified for the Top 8 YEC!

All that's left to see is the seedings going into it. @PDJ and @Boozyuzi can sneak up and take any seeding above them (they are currently 3 and 4 respectively), whereas I can take any seeding but the #1.

No idea what happened to me this year. Amassed points from winning the AO and had a good early hard court season, reached #1 again and was leading the Race for quite a while. And then just inexplicably started crumbling away in the second half of the season! Indian Wells final may well have been the turning point
It's the curse of the AO winner this year...

I had no confidence in Diego, and would not have picked him except it ensured me the 8th spot if he lost as I would go down with everyone else. Limped into it.

Welcome to the penultimate event of the 2019 ATP Sudden Death League season (main tour):

Paris Bercy Rolex Masters
Paris, France
Indoor Hardcourt
28 October - 3 November, 2019

RULES (Masters 1000 Event) - SINGLES:

1. You pick one player who you think is going to win. It's a knock out-system: if the player you picked wins, you're through to the next round. If he loses, you're out.

2. Prior to the Round of 16, you have to pick one player per day (day 1 - monday, day 2 - tuesday and day 3 - wednesday). In the R16, quarters, semis and finals you pick one player per round (equates to the same thing anyway).

3. You can pick a player only ONCE. Obviously it's important to make smart choices in order to get far. If you have no picks remaining, you're eliminated from the competition.

4. You can't pick a player from a match that has started already.

5. You cannot advance to the next round via a walkover since it is hard to know exactly when someone announced they were pulling out HOWEVER this rule does not apply once you reach the semifinals

6. Since you can no longer win a match by a walkover it is highly advised that you make a back-up pick to your main pick - when listing your picks make sure you specify which is your back-up.

7. If the player you picked retires during the match, you're out. If he retires before the match, your back-up pick will be used unless you change your pick before your back up match begins.

8. If the opponent of the person you picked withdraws and is replaced by a lucky loser your original pick will stand unless you specifically change it. (Usual caveat with this rule and the consideration of BU applies.)

9. NEVER edit your pick. If you want to change your pick, please quote your old pick and choose a new player. Edited posts will not be taken into consideration.

Question to @Krish872007. I know I'm out with this because Nadal didn't win, but what if I had had Shapovalov as my backup? We can't advance via walkover until the semis, but that rule doesn't apply in the semis. Would a Nadal/Shapo pick be disallowed or would I be in the finals with a Djokovic pick if I had done that?

Only 2 possible scenarios here, all quite straightforward:
If you had Shapo as main pick you would have advanced via W/O rule for semis.
Nadal as main pick, Shapo as BU? Would be disallowed as it violates the underlying principle of the game - maybe I can make clearer in the rules but it would never make sense to have the opponent of your main pick as BU

Yeah, I thought so. That only makes sense, but I didn't see the rules disallow it. :)

Final... err.... Shapovalov.
I can't access the spreadsheet but l don't think I've picked him previously.
Bit redundant given Djokovic will win, but happy to have defended points from last year, which l had little hope of actually doing.

You’re good with Shapo.

Well done. Isn't this the time of year when last year's WTF points are taken off and Race and Ranking points are the same?

@Krish872007 are you about ? When are Davis Cup points removed ?

Typically removed around now? I think this is around the time we did so last couple of years, though there may have been a year prior to that when I stripped them off just before Paris.

Yes, we'll be playing Davis Cup this year as well - should be easier to manage now that it's all in one block just after the WTF

Generally this game mimics the point structure the ATP uses for rankings. The ATP strips off the points before WTF, so the previous year's WTF points are not part of a player's ranking, and therefore not considered when seeding the players. If you look at the ATP site, it is the only time of the year where Race and Rankings are the same.
