I really dislike the arrogance of Djokovic's fans. Yes, he very well could win, but it isn't inevitable. He has lost matches he was supposed to win. Nadal is playing at a high enough level that if he doesn't get injured he can win AO 2019.

There is no arrogance here. It's just a matchup thing. There are times when Nadal has been playing far better than Djoko and still loses to the Serb. The presence of Nadal on the other side, just makes Djokovic play better.
Sort of what Nadal used to do to Federer years ago. Djokovic was a problem for Rafa even before Novak became a slam winning machine.
On this surface based on the record, history and the matchup - Novak is by far the favorite against Nadal. If this were the UsOpen or RG, you might have a point, but certainly not at the AO.

The Scoreline looks interesting enough to tune in to watch from the 3rd set!

Anyone think Zed can mount a comeback?

I agree. It's just too bad. I'm desperately looking for the next player I can be a fan off, once Fedal retire (which is probably happening sooner than we think).
I wanted that guy to be Zverev, but he keeps disappointing. I had originally thought he would be future #1 with several slams. Now I am not sure. Also don't see anyone else with potential.
Perhaps it is Tpisitsas.

Yes, looks like Tsitsipas to me. Wouldn't quite give up on Shapovalov either.

Just a message for anyone tuning in:

Yes, Zverev has been garbage but Raonic has been incredibly solid, especially on return. It's a carbon copy of the Nadal v Berdych match performances

You honestly feel that Medvedev will even make it competitive against Djoko? I'd be surprised if he even won a set.
Djokovic is not Fed and he is not losing to anyone these days in the slams. And i doubt Medvedev is as good as the Greek kid who beat Fed.
Last time Novak played at a high level was at Shanghai masters last year. Medvedev has a good chance

Look how pathetic is next generation and people think they'll beat Djokodal at slams? Next generation should defeat players like Cilic, RBA , Raonic etc before they even think about winning slams.

Zverev is overrated because he hasn't shown he's capable in a BO5 to defeat the best players. Tsitsipas will be much tougher down the road in my opinion.

Nadal was injured. Prime and healthy Nadal was invincible at RG.

Djoko isn't as strong as he was in 2015.

Haha, I know. Don't worry, no offense taken.

Welcome to the forums btw, haven't seen you around til now so here's my welcome mat.

Either Bautista Agut or Tsitsipas are guarenteed to make a slam SF here in Melbourne.

Meanwhile our world number 4 still without a slam SF and looks like he's about to lose before another slam QF.

Even prime Nadal was not invincible on clay. Soderling beat him didn't he?
But Djokovic on AO, is as close to domination on hardcourts as you can ever get. Which other player has dominated this surface more?

The guy has made the semis just 6 times in his career at the Oz Open.....that's a lot of losses before the semis since 2007.....just facts

Is there any other similar case to a young promising player that people used to talk so much and he felt so much pressure that he went on to win no slams?
I know people talked a lot about Gasquet when he was young, but I'm not sure he was ever a bet of anyone to win slams.

What a great day. I received a new watch that I've been hoping to get for a long time, sushi for lunch, my wife has basically given me the day off everything, a nice long afternoon slot in my schedule for a run, I've got a couple of other things ready to watch if Zverev turns it around, but this is the sweetest ****-cherry on top of a great day.

Courier: LOW ENERGY. Yep. It has been said.
Only will be a great day if Halep can school Williams later on. Then there will only be players left in the draws that I would be happy to see win the title (well, actually Milos would sort of annoy me but I can't deny he's playing great here)

Tsitsipas will rule the generation, I hope Shapo steps up, but he looks a bit flakey and nervy. Very happy they both have long hair and OHBH, love the throwback. But my Greek blood is very happy for Stephanos, he's box office.

Coric, De Minaur (he was unfortunate at this tournament in that he met Nadal in an early round), Tsitsipas, and yes Zverev all can work this year towards improving their games, both physically and mentally. I am sure there are some others that I am blanking out at the moment. Once Federer retires things will start to change.

Zverev's horrible play aside, people underrate Raonic a bit in my opinion. He has beaten Wawrinka and Federer in Slams and pushed Murray to 5 here in 2016. He's not a pushover.

Zverev is overrated because he hasn't shown he's capable in a BO5 to defeat the best players. Tsitsipas will be much tougher down the road in my opinion.

And Zverev is the only one from next generation that has done remotely anything in his career ;) that alone tells you how pathetic is next generation.
