I would disagree there are quite a few capable of winning this, Pliskova will be an even bigger test than today and then probably Osaka if she gets past Plis. Simona rather gave that one away when she looked good, could have gone for a bit more Williams can't run so the margins are better but she was a bit safe I thought in those key games. I think Williams is very beatable, my concern is Svitolina beats Osaka and Petra has a bad day in the other half, Barty with the home crowd is dangerous and I doubt she has the mentality to beat Williams, Svitolina has but Williams could do largely as today win on first serve and second return against her. I doubt Williams gets past Pliskova, Osaka, Kvitova, all have strength and improved fitness, none of them will be bullied, which was not the case today, with a 40kg weight advantage.

It sounds like you've convinced yourself that Serena is about 5th favourite. Not sure about that but hopefully we get some later finals the same quality of this.

I thought she was tiring in the beginning of set 3 but she still had more in the tank. Impressive how she hung in those rallies at the end and gained the advantage over Halep. Kvitova has surprised me this tournament but Barty will be tough and she will have the crowd.

No she can brute power to win against any woman she has such an advantage there. She can be beaten though the template was set last year, Simona was very close today didn't quite get it right I thought. In women's Tennis these days there isn't really a favourite but there are 3 left, possibly 4 in Collins who could beat her if they recognise what they need to do. Even Petra though wouldn't win a pure powerbash against Williams.

Agreed but the power of Serena's ground strokes was a huge factor. I don't even think Serena was moving that well and she was visibly tired at the end. That and her serve which is of course incredible

Yes -easily. I very much like her on the court, and off the court (every time I've seen her interviews, appearances, etc.), I love her. Totally down-to-earth, friendly, with some charm. Of top WTA players over the years, I think of her and Woz at the top for these qualities.
