So I see our best candidates are.

Djokovic - Favourite, even though he didn't look scary finishing his season, AO and him are good freinds, so he could take it, and he of course raises his level when it is Grand Slams.

Federer - Two time defending champion, of course he has an incredible chance, dissapointing if he doesn't lose to Djokovic or win the tournament.

Nadal - For me Nadal's 2nd best slam is AO, the court fits him, and he has almost always played amazing at it, his competition has just been tougher at AO than UO I guess.

Thiem - Wait what? I know it's crazy, but Thiem is bad at not clay-tournaments, but his UO performance tells me, that he raises his level big time at Grand Slam (opposite of Zverev), so I think he has a great chance, and if Djokovic, Fed and Nadal loses, I think he has the best chance.

Zverev - His big breakthrough is yet top happen, problem is he's very bad at slams, and his QF at FO was so lucky I think, so a tough one for him, but he has a chance after winning WTF

Kyrgios - Loses in first round or wins the tournament,.

Del Potro - Well AO is not his best Slam, and he's not always the best at the beginning of a season. (Sadly withdrew)

Khachanov - Well his match against Djokovic was incredible, but yet I think he could get a SF, but still not beat Djokovic in BO5

Cilic - Of course this is possible, but I mean, if it wasn't because he had good results already at AO, I wouldn't give him a chance.

Murray - Needs a big comeback, I feel like he could win his first AO, suprisingly and it would be nice.

No need for it to be deleted. 2018's thread started around this time so it's all good.

Glad to hear that.

Thinking none of the big 3 win it.
I'd think it's the time for that, I mean of course I want Nadal to win 2 of each Grand Slams, but if finally we could get a new Grand Slam winner, that would be good and give a better look at the not good-looking tennis future.

I honestly think we'll finally have a new winner here. I have no clue who it will be, but I don't think Novak/Rafa/Roger will be standing on the winner's platform. It won't be Zverev, but it will be someone new. Hope it's Murray (and yes, he's new, since he's never won the AO before).

Gosh, wouldn't that just be divine? I tell you I'd be floating around on the ceiling for quite some time before I land back on Earth if that were to happen! :D

Well, it's no crime to dream, is it?;)

From 2006 until now we had only one year where non Big 3 member won the title and this was in 2014.So the chances of having new winner here are very low but if some player oust Djokovic like Stan did 4 years ago who knows but again the chances of this happening are slim.

At Starbucks there's that "Christmas songs already???" moment.

On TTW there's that "AusOpen thread already???" moment.

Most amazingly, these moments both happen around Thanksgiving.

Would need to see how everyone does in those warmup events.
As of now, the favorites are Djokovic, Nadal, Federer, in that order. No other notable favorites.

Would like to see either Murray vs Nadal or Federer vs Djokovic in the final. Djokovic the big favourite for me.

Djokovic is obviously winning it this (next) year, but it will also be another big tournament for Zverev, who will reach the QF's. Roger will also make the QF's. Novak will beat a one time finalist for the title, like Wimby 2010. Maybe Dimitrov or someone.

Oh, no question about it, everything you said is true. But this stranglehold on slams will have to end at some point. We got a glimmer of that last year when Thiem reached the FO finals (only to be annihilated), and Zverev beat Fed-Novak back to back to win the second most important tourney after a major.

Obviously if I had to bet money on who the AO winner will be, I'm picking Djokovic. But he's shown signs of not being able to handle the power games of the new guys: losses to Karen and Zverev might be a harbinger of things to come in terms of power blasting the old guys off the court. Boris did it to Mac, Lendl did it to everyone else and then Sampras came along and blew away everyone. It's coming eventually to today's game.

Tennis channel has been showing this match for last few days now from 2018 Aussie open. I had forgotten how crazy good this match really was. Chung Vs Sasha. Chung went into this match very confident due to his Next gen win in 2017 and it really showed in his confidence against Zeverev.

IMO, the favorites list mostly follows the rankings.

Djokovic
Nadal (if healthy and playing)
Federer
Zverev
JMDP
Anderson
Cilic

At this point I think it diverges from the rankings. Thiem is much lower than his ranking should suggest. I'd say next are the young guns that are ranked near there but might break through someday - Khachanov, Coric, Tsitsipas, Medvedev, Chung.

Next I'd bump Murray. He's earned himself a spot on this list, albeit below all the guys I've just mentioned, because to be honest it's unlikely for him to come back and immediately be playing at GS level.

I don't think anyone not yet mentioned has a chance.

Why is this his second best slam? Actually think the court speed does not work for him here ...

These are the players who, in my opinion, have zero chance of winning:
Federer
Murray
Chung
Thiem
Dimitrov
Khachnakov
Paire
Pouille
Raonic
DeMinaur
Medvedev
Nishikori

Those with a chance of winning
Anderson
Nadal (very low)
Zverev
Tsitsipas
Djokovic

Just my opinion

The guy who should make more effort at the Australian Open is Del Potro. Fast hard court is probably his best surface, but he doesn't seem to really try in Australia. Hope he's over the injury by January and primed for a strong showing.

One of the Big 3 will win, the other players mentioned dont have Mental Toughness it takes. Murray is a sentimental favorite, he is not on track yet.

Cheers

Have a weird feeling djokovic might not win a major until wimbledon. He just is spotty in form and he has been known to flip flop when he is the favorite. But maybe that 2015 -2016 season purged those demons. I am thinking a dark horse wins it. Not sure who.

Of the top guys: If Murray is fit to play, he could shock everyone and win it all.

Djokovic is the likely pick as the man in form. Federer three-peat does seem quite unlikely.

At the very least I think we'll have a relatively inexperienced or new Slam Finalist.

Why is Nadal chance low ? he will be 100 % healthy after the rest and will comeback strong in January like he usually does. Novak and Khachanov does pose a threat.

Depends on the draw IMO. Much like how it took 3 guys to do a TKO on Rafa at the USO, I suspect the same had to be done if Novak were to be denied his third consecutive slam.

Would love Djokovic to win this Slam more than any other next year, now that Federer had a surprising resurgence and tied his record there.

Hoping for an exciting two weeks, like last year. This one was unimpressive.

Was never a huge fan of his for some reason, but that would be truly stunning when you look at his recent struggles and whole history at the Australian Open.

I like the chances of the young man Safiullin, currently 24 in the race to London. He may have to come through qualifying, though, where players like Berankis and Nedovyesov will prove to be worthy foes. I think Roman can come through and compete with Khachanov and Medvedev for the title, though

Quietly hoping murray storms back and destroys djokovic in the final. Then dorkovic finally gets rev3nge at wimbledon and humiliates Murray in 3 easy sets in the final. Prob will not happen but one can dream of great revenge tennis kinda like revenge sex out on the tennis court.

I'm sorta with you on this, but I think Djokr wins RG18.

My guess is:
AO19-Fedr
RG19-Djokr
WB19-Fedr/Djokr/Cilic
USO19-Z

I know it's a boring point of view but I do expect Djokovic is the most likely to win here. He's not invincible but he's definitely the favourite. I don't think Nadal is going to be in-form enough to make a good attempt to be honest. Federer is a possibility but again, unlikely. I'm hoping for some good performances from the NextGen. I'd be very happy if one of them can surprise me and win the thing

That movie was awesome. The casket scene was Brandos greatest acting ever. Not his greatest role. Unreal the greatest actor of all time. The bs that is being spewed about bertolucci by the trash SJWs today is pitiful. He was one of the great directors ever!
Ps i just re watched it as an adult. Always wanted to watch it. Shneider was a hottie!

A good revenge is the best thing ever. And specially fought on a tennis court.

Most of all I want Rafa to revenge Federer with a proper humiliation on court. 3 sets.

If that doesnt happen Id love to see Rafa Murray final. Its a good matchup if Andy is on.

I think Novak should win one more and be the king of AO.
He deserves it.

For all that nadal has fought through i really want him to get a big win over fed again after the 5 straight losses. I think if he can beat fed again it will help get him on the right path. You know he is seething to get revenge.
