How does Hsieh get some of these shots in !?

6 games in a row for her now.
Osaka needs to tighten her game to stop the bleeding.

For some reason I'm fascinated with the blue transparent tennis racquet ESPN shows as part of the telecast.

Osaka trying to mix it up a bit too much. Big mistake - she can't come close by trying to beat Hsieh at her own game.
Some extent as much as required is ok. But to change too much is a mistake.

Fascinating and ejoyable to watch such an unorthodox player like Hsieh slice and dice her way to frustrate her opponent(s). Wouldn't mind seeing more dropshots in WTA to disrupt the many players.

She's groping in the sun.

Inevitable loss I suppose. Osaka didn't do too badly, she just got frustrated too soon.

I blame expectations, she only lost first set 5-7 so no reason for her to implode second set.

Hsieh was super resistant, consistent and accurate for a 6-7 game stretch. Osaka couldn't penetrate her.

Thankful I’m not watching this one as I can’t stand watching Hsieh play. Makes me uncomfortable how players can’t figure out how to beat her. She used to be one of the most common players to bagel but her top 10 opponents let her into the rallies and are thrown by her weird game. Seeing Cibulková handle her easily at Wimbledon was brilliant. Attack that weak serve.

I think that's something she needs to develop in her game more. When attack mode is not working and you are spraying errors, start to hit with more topspin and margin and wait for the right shot to go for the winner.
Yep - right now no B-game. Not much safety net.

Just tuned in, is Osaka just not playing well or combo of good play from opponent and subpar from her
Not accurate analysis if you just tuned in. I watched from beginning, Osaka did well just Su got under her skin like she does every other WTA player.

scootad.

Semi-Pro
Su wei Hsei reminds me of a poor mans version of Monica Seles. Double fisted on both forehand and backhand, amazing angles, hits on rise. Less power, more touch and less accomplished.

Only thing Osaka did wrong was let her frustration carry over to second set. Otherwise she was playing well.

You must not like Monica Niculesc or Vinci either ;)
But you are not entirely wrong on the assessment, lowered ranked girls beat Hsieh regularly at any day.

thought Osaka missed there, but looks like she got the line to force the error.
Gets back into the match.

Naomi is trying different things like loopy balls, etc., but what I don't like seeing is that she's basically given up since going down a break.

Naomi, your idol is Serena. Don't copy everything she does but you need to fight like Serena does like she would do even if she was a set and 1-5 down. That's Serena's best quality to copy. Chin up!

Oh, as I got to here, Osaka has BP, TAKE IT!

...annnd it's TAKEN! :D :D

Maybe she heard me....

Especially having served for the set. She can be very volatile emotionally and expects a lot of herself.

She also has the best arms on the WTA.

Wait.

Is that related?

Parden my spontaneity.

Back on serve in the 2nd set. LETSGO

I don’t hate slicing. I like Vinci’s game. I hate players who can’t attack one of the weakest serves on tour and then continue to hit the ball back to Hsieh which guarantees she’ll hit a crazy shot like a drop shot or a random winner. Don’t hit it right to Hsieh for god sakes! Watching the Muguruza match last year was like death. Kept hitting the ball to her and was not attacking those serves. Hsieh is so easily bagelled because the lower ranked players know how to play a mediocre player with a strange game but the top pro’s are so not used to it that they let her get into their head. Hsieh has so many top 10 wins yet has about the same amount of bagels from players ranked 50-100.

Yep - Osaka does need to venture to net more if Hsieh is just going to resist in the middle of the Aussie desert.

She only did that momentarily then she checked herself and got back on track. She was lost for that time being.

To add, it also doesn't help that Hsieh is way too consistent today and Naomi's way off on groundstrokes.

Hsieh frustrates players, Osaka just got caught up in that. If she kept her cool she wouldn't have been down 1-4 but now she's back on track.
