How do people watch this stuff? It's absolutely dismal. Pliskova had her pegged in the first set very effectively with the simplest strategy in tennis: side to side. And now what? She's just going away for no reason whatsoever.

And she does it, wow.

I honestly didn't think we'd see a third.

Crucial to get a quick start here if at all possible. Pliskova may be rattled after all this.

Boom! All even. Very curious if Pliskova can keep up the energy in set 3. She seemed to hit less purposefully near the end of set 2, so imo it could go sideways pretty quickly.

I thought she was out of this match 20 minutes ago. She still looks lethargic today but Halep worked her out the other night. She's probably sore as hell. Lol

Absolutely abysmal, you had one job Pliskova. Up 3-2 with a break and just had to serve it out, then proceeds to get broken twice when she hadn't faced a break point up until then. I'm out, hopefully Osaka can crush Williams again in the semis

Yes, not a great level. The body language of both players is not that engaging. I hope that the 3rd set will be better.

Funny thing is I think that physically she can handle this fine. The three setter with Halep was somewhere around 1:45, nothing too crazy.

But I don't know if she can keep her serve on the level.

Simmer down, match is far from over. I doubt Pliskova surrenders. Ya'll give all of Serena's opponents so little credit as soon as they're not miles ahead of her.

Pliskova moves like a sloth.

Mindless ball basher. All she needs to do is move Serena around yet she just hits 90% of her shots down the middle letting Serena just stand there.

But it was very physical and intense rallies. She hasn't had to play anything like that type of tennis this tournament until that match. She hasn't played in 4 months so body is probably sore today. The serve looks to have gotten better the longer the match has gone on honestly.

I mean, when we've all seen the same story play out about a million times, it's hard to be optimistic.

0-40 on Pliskova's serve now...

Really? I saw a lot more variety from Pliskova than just side to side. Sometimes, yes, but she also hit right at Serena, sometimes she used bh slice, she varied the pace. She's had a lot of success going down the line with winners. If anything, both players have relied on their serves, which pretty much sums up any ATP match.

Well, most players do surrender and just go away. I've seen it time and time again over the years

Sure, it's always physical with Simona. But I mean, look, she came into QF with less than 5 hours on court in total; only Kvitova had less court time than her. If she can't handle a three setter after spending less than 5 hours on court in total in four prior matches, not sure she can win a slam again at all (nor should she, honestly).

When you drop your serve at love against Serena, while being in a winning position, your end is near.

Serena is not that interested in this match, and she’s still two games away.

Well she does tend to become even more unmanageable when ahead. Nonetheless, Pliskova isn't a chump and she wouldn't need much of a drop from Serena to come back imo.

Plus there is always a day rest.

Serena always look lethargic even when she's winning sometimes. The match against Simona she seems like she's very slow, tired, etc.
