What happend? Collins was robbed?
If being legitimately beaten by her opponent was robbery, then yeah.
What happend? Collins was robbed?
Naomi Osaka: Minimum Round Required - Quarterfinal (#1 in live rankings after QF)
Petra Kvitova: Minimum Round Required - Final (#2 live rank after QF win)
Elina Svitolina: Minimum Round Required - Final(lost in QF round)
Karolina Pliksova: Minimum Round Required - Title (must win AO to take #1)
Ok my grasshoppers, we are now down to 3 players vying for the #1 spot. Simona has dropped to 3rd in the live ranking. We started the AO with 11 possible and now down to the last three. The live WTA rankings, as they stand now, have Naomi at #1, Petra at #2, Simona at #3 and Karolina at #5. Danielle Collins is the only semi-finalist not in contention for the #1 slot. Serena, with her loss to Karolina, remains outside the top 10 for now.
Iff Karolina P beats Naomi O in the SF round, she moves up to #3 and Simona H ends up #4 (instead of #3). Karolina must then win the title, for an additional 700 pts, in order to take over the #1 spot. If Naomi wins her SF with Karolina, the only way that she loses the #1 ranking is if Petra K takes the title.
.
We don't know that but it's water under the bridge now. We will have a new Australian Open champion on Saturday. Not Osaka
Thank you for these posts throughout the tournament. Fascinating.Naomi Osaka: Minimum Round Required - Quarterfinal (#1 in live rankings after QF)
Petra Kvitova: Minimum Round Required - Final (#2 live rank after QF win)
Elina Svitolina: Minimum Round Required - Final(lost in QF round)
Karolina Pliksova: Minimum Round Required - Title(lost in SF round)
And then there were 2. With Karolina's loss to Naomi in the SF round, she will end up as #5 in the official WTA ranking next week (she's moving up from #8). This leaves 2 left to battle it out for the AO title as well as the #1 spot in the WTA ranking... winner takes all. Naomi is still #1 in the live ranking, with Petra as #2, but there is only 40 pts difference between the two. The AO champion gets an additional 700 pts so this will decide you ends up as #1 in the official ranking next week.
Simona drops to #3 and Sloane moves one spot up to #4. Other notable moves: Angelique Kerber drops down four slots to #6 (and Elina stays at #7). Kiki B moved up one to #8 and Caro (Woz) drops 6 spots to #9. Aryna Sablenka finally breaks in into the top 10 and Serena sits just outside it at #11.

I found, when l lived and played tennis in London for 15 years, that Serena especially really divided opinion to extremes: people either loved or disliked her. There was little middle ground. I've never known a club player that is just 'meh' about her.Lol maybe Eastern Europe.
The William sisters are not unpopular here in the UK, from what I recall Venus was more popular than Serena up until like 2009, then it was Serena.

I would so love that. Always had a soft corner for her and more so after the horrible robbery attempt on her.And a brand new WTA #1 as well. Petra has been up to #2 previously (in 2011). After what she's been thru in the last 2+ years (since the attack late in 2016), I'd really like to see her grab her 3rd slam title and the #1 slot (for the first time).

That's true, to a point, on here.
I think Venus, being of a seemingly gentler nature, doesn't incite such extremes.
I agree with you. Hence my final sentence.I don’t see no negative extreme side to Venus.
Plus she reached 8 Wimbledon Final’s from 2000-2010 and won 5 of them, so a lot of her popularity came from Wimbledon over here.
Lol maybe Eastern Europe.

Obvious fraud according to who? What grounds have you got to call people racist, when purely commenting on the Williams sisters who are widely regarded as 2 of the most obvious frauds in Sport. I don't regard anyone as winners who don't play be the ethical rules and these two are multi-ped users I don't care if they got spurious TUE's competing with such roids is gaining an advantage, not only that only a fool believes some of their matches were not rigged. Most people here in the UK despise them with a passion, all the figures tell you women's Tennis has gone downhill since the Williams came to the fore, compared to Men's Tennis and there are plenty more men's sport to watch. Women's Tennis should be top of the tree for women's sport but it has declined for a long time.
It will change though when they have gone.
Obvious fraud according to who?
People here don't like them in the UK? Well I disagree, I won't be surprised if you are from some small village in Yorkshire. I bet you're a daily reader (and commenter) of Daily Mail right? Starting to build up a picture here.
I am not far from Yorkshire actually, not a village though, Daily Mail is a great success story and one of the few that gives Tennis outside Murray a fair wind. If you disagree and think they are popular here you are wrong. The match fixing did for them here as a major pull, that sort of smell is seen really badly. Fair play is held very dear. Even a big sport like Cricket here has never really recovered from it's fixing scandal, just a complete no here. Federer is a massive overseas sporting draw, Williams not so.
How do you know someone is from Yorkshire if you don't hear the accent? Not surprised you're not 'far' from Yorkshire, knew you was from Northern England straight away. And lol you like Daily Mail as well? Even more disgusting than I thought. Anyway, you should come down south to the city and leave the village you live in and then see for yourself.
No match fixing is done for them here, if they were the best grass players of this century I'd rather see them in the final than in Round 2, you want the latter because you don't like them, not about capabilities.
I can't imagine being as stupid as you. Imagine thinking that drugs help Serena place her serves at exact spots or help her play corners aggressively.
You're full of hate, simply.

Care to take a guess where I'm from? Although one member here would suggest HadesI just chose a random area of Northern England. Someone that dislikes both Williams sisters as much as him is obviously from the northern part of England, for obvious reasons.
The worst part isn't that actually, he also reads Daily Mail, LOL.

Yorkshire.Yours is a bit harder to guess, could be anywhere. I'll guess London for now lol!

If only everyone was as easy going as you.No one--except the same group that gave themselves marching orders to attack the Williams family from the moment they dared to play professional tennis. They have no evidence or reason to accuse them of anything, save for the true reason they always deny--that denial is always the self-exposing act of the guilty.
Agreed,
Of course.
True. And that member is not alone, as evidenced by the usual suspects in this thread and the AO women's final thread. Some try to mask their dangerous hatred (for all of a moment), but they are always making direct or sideline references--always hostile and demeaning--to the Williams family--Serena in particular.

Acurate assessments apply to so many.
It’s not so much Daily Mail I hate, but it’s the comments I read, beyond disgusting.Yorkshire.
Just kidding
And, for the record, I absolutely agree that the Daily Mail is a disgrace of a newspaper (although he's right that the sports coverage is good).
I've long held the view that the DM is read by people that think they are too educated to read The Sun. They're not. They all belong to a similar mindset, the difference being the amount of syllables they can cope with.
And that is nationwide.
Unluckily for them, 23 can only go higherNo one--except the same group that gave themselves marching orders to attack the Williams family from the moment they dared to play professional tennis. That isn't how I view the Daily Mail. It’s not so much Daily Mail I hate, but it’s the comments I read, beyond disgusting.
The worst thing about Daily Mail is their exaggeration. Every winter is apparently ‘going to be’ the coldest on record, lol.
That isn't how I view the Daily Mail.
And the example you give, if that was the worst of their journalistic integrity I wouldn't begrudge buying it occasionally.
I imagine most online comments for any media outlet have similiar points of view. Also JDoe is an American so presumably he doesn't actually buy the paper.Comments like this:
"JDoe080, Orlando, United States, 23 hours ago
Just accept your loss and be quiet about it. Always someone else's fault when things don't go her way." with 502 upvotes and 76 downvotes.
Serena literally said nothing about the foot fault call, but the Daily Mail article was titled "Was Serena ROBBED? Umpire slammed after controversial foot fault call on match point sees the former number one fall in her Australian Open quarter-final" and their thick readers comment things like that.

Which paper do you read? The Guardian?

I predict Osaka wins the AO and becomes the new #1. Maybe we finally have a young one ready to step up and dominate the tour.

At least it's not as bad as The Sun @ausfrewimuso
I dislike Collins, but seeing a lot of abuse she took on her Instagram, I feel bad for her.
Wonder why she also spend energy to reply some of the hate comments that she received.
At one time, I believed Azarenka (at the point when she was winning majors), then Muguruza (now 25) would be more dominant, but that did not happen (yet for Muguruza, in any case). While Osaka at 21 is young enough that her winning say, 2 majors per year would make her dominant (if the other two majors were won by two different players), it seems many players certainly have the talent to win majors, but are they destined to become "that" kind of sport-changing force? Only time will tell, starting with this AO final.

Naomi just comes across to me as different than the other young players we've seen lately. She seems driven.
I guess we'll see but she seems to me to be something special.

I was mainly going off the site rather than the actual newspaper. I never read off the Sun's site, most the time just the Guardian or I'll stick to BBC.
I haven't watched her. However, I watched Kvitova in person in the 2014 Wimbledon final; she was just jawdropping. I notice she hasn't dropped a set here. I'm not going to bet against her when she reaches a GS final in that kind of form ...
