I wonder how often will he go for big second serves from now on, especially in big Slam matches, which I don't doubt he will contest plenty of times in the future. This time it payed off, and his courage has been something to applaud in these last two days. Even though the Big 3 remain the men to beat at the Majors, this has been a wonderful story this week. Congratulations to Medvedev on his first Masters win and debut in the top 5.

I don't know if it was playing up to the level of competition, but Medvedev was MUCH better against Djoko than he was Goffin. If he had carried the same level of play, it would have been 6-3 6-2, or something like that.

At the trophy ceremony, Daniil said he was so tired that he could barely speak... after playing 2 sets. I guess he was completely gassed making 3 back-to-back finals in 3 weeks, along with yesterday's marathon against Djokr. Understandable since he had less than 24hrs of rest before having to play the finals today.

I think he'll do some damage in NY.

Good thing Goffin did the damage at Wimbledon, it might have had an impact on the end result there.

Can't wait for the US Open. Nice that another guy introduced himself like this in the meantime. Even if he ends up not doing much in New York, I think he is here to stay for the long term. And I am so glad it's the Mad Lad.

(y)(y)(y)(y)(y)(y)(y)(y)(y)(y)(y) For all your Mad Lad comments and he was Mad at the end today that was for sure.:p

In interview with Gilbert on court Med said he was cramping starting at 5-3 so those serves were big time as he himself stated 5 all would have been trouble.

Watching replay of match due to Tennis TV malfeasance and Mad Lad came out for pre-match interview with hands and wrists covered with white powder. With net down was adjust hair in glass while waiting with this on his hands. Apparently this is all part of the Mad Lad routine, but it looks extremely weird.

Fixed that for you

If the stakes are really high then he won't dare. Unless he is desperate but he will have to have great faith in his serves.

finally a guy who can back it up
not a guy that defeats federer and then vaporizes in the next round (although i like rublev)

Congrats on being 3rd time lucky for Medvedev in ATP finals played within the last month. Runner up in Washington (to Kyrgios), Montreal (to Nadal) and now victor at last in Cincinnati (beating Goffin after putting out defending champion Djokovic in the semis).

Shut your duck up!

TBH I would put him ahead of Federer in likelihood of winning it.

Maybe, against the non big 3 field Mad Lad's been the most impressive, running through it like a freight train but if Fed vs Med happened I expect Fed to rush the **** out of Med and dispatch him.

4R top result at slams; that’s a 54-0 career QFs advantage.

Mad Lad is indeed building momentum to get that first QF or better but Bo5 draw penetration is still very much an unknown.

WTF with Medvedev's celebration...man, you've just won your biggest title so far after losing two straight finals the last two weeks...and you celebrate like it was a first round Challenger?

The toned down celebrations must be a Russian thing. Safin used to do them all the time.

I have no doubt whatever as #5 seed and hottest player atm, Meddy will draw Fed or Djoker in USO for quarters

I understand him, I have the same character. Wins don't move you, losses drive you nuts.

The match was shown on ESPN2 in the United States, not on the Tennis Channel. I watched it on ESPN2.

I was trying to quote and it wasn't working ): Oh well, so glad for Medvedev winning! (:
