I didn't watch but really surprised by the result. Looks like there really might be a matchup issue. Djokovic never had it easy against Med, even in the matches which he won.
You shouldn't be. Djokovic does NOT care about Mickey Mouse tournaments.

If Novak meets Medvedev in the UsOpen, Medvedev won't even get a set. That I can guarantee you.

At this stage in his career, it makes no sense for Djokovic to peak at these small tournaments.

This loss means NOTHING towards the slams and the quest for the GOAT for Djokovic.

Medvedev will get a set, he won't win, but he will get a set.

Medvedev will get a set, he won't win, but he will get a set.

I would agree with you in a normal case. However Djokovic will be wounded and OUT for revenge. He will crush Medvedev.

Firing 128 mph 2nd serve aces is NOT a sustainable strategy UNLESS your name is Pete Sampras.

Again this match just showed how MUCH BETTER Djokovic is than the rest of the field and Fed/Nadal in particular.

To me, it seems that we will have a VERY one-sided UsOpen. I expect a AO 2019 like demolition job by Novak.

What impresses me from watching the highlights is that Medvedev realized that you just can't play the ABC tennis and expect to beat Djokovic. Honestly from what I see there is nothing to be discouraged about if you're a Djokovic fan.

I also love the no reaction to winning what is a huge match for a young kid. Down a set to one of the greatest of all time and then you play out of your mind to win the match and you don't go crazy? Wow that says a lot.

He seems like a player who's really serious about taking the big prizes. Might not get there but great to see that ambition.

Medvedev in press now. Asked about second serve aces, decided to go for it, one double fault won’t kill me. Says he wasn’t hitting the ball well early, decided to be more aggressive

Says his recent game plan has been not to take too many risks, today he changed it up. Not sure if this is Russian mentality.

Asked if this is the way to beat the Big 3, says he’s only beaten Novak, hasn’t beaten the other two.

I asked him whether he felt Novak’s level dip as his went up: he said that’s normal, when one player’s energy goes up even a great champion’s level can go down, and he felt he (Daniil) got a second wind at 1-1 or 2-2 in set 2, and he was able to carry it through to set 3.

Asked if he’ll have enough energy for tomorrow: In the first set, he thought he’d fall down after every long rally with Novak, but he was able to run like crazy in set 3, so he’ll be OK for tomorrow.

It is most gracious of you to leave plenty of space between your points for note taking. Everyone should be so considerate.

Dude, stop. Djokovic cares very much about masters tournaments. Otherwise why would he try so hard to win Rome this year? He does better in slams these days but it's not because he doesn't care about smaller tournaments. It's ridiculous some people even believe this BS. The real reason is that the younger players are much better in BO3 than in BO5. Med will probably not even get far enough to face Djokovic in USO.

He can atleast win a set

He did it early this year

Cause he sees Del Potro across the net and thinks it's beneath him to that ****ing mug probably

This match showed how much better Djokovic is than the 2 guys (especially Nadal) who routined Medvedev?

Lol sure.

We don't know yet what Medvedev will reach - especially in terms of consistency.

Against a great returner who consistently feasts on your usual second serve, going for an aggressive approach with a "second first serve" is actually a very sound approach. The maths won't be worse, and it'll also keep things in your hands. With the added bonus of having fewer rallies, which can be important in case a stamina deficit may exist.

I'd even expect a few other players with a "big first serve" game to mimic Medvedev's approach against Djokovic. You'd need a high enough 1st serve percentage of course.

Great match from medvedev! Took djokovic to the woodeshed! He played far better than against nadal in canada. He has djokovics number this year. Djokovic has to play more aggressive against him. Djokovic has lots of work to do. Hopefully they meet at the us open. 5 sets will help djokovic. But medvedev has the edge right now! Djokovic might be heading into a lull. He has been on fire since wimbkedon 2018! Needs to pace himself!

DMV certainly showed some guts and belief. Gotta love a player who rolls the dice at a pivotal point in a huge match and just rides it to victory.

Both players were really feeling it physically halfway through the 2nd set. They both looked gassed and DMV's abrupt tactical change snuck in under Novak autopilot's radar. By the time Novak realised he was in trouble the second set was gone and DMV was really bel1eving. Strange, interesting match.

Can't understand how this guy can be so cocky...

He's done nothing
2-0 versus Djoko plus beat Nadal and Medvedev in big hard court matches this year (won both events); the three strong US Open contenders. Also has the best record versus the top 10 in 2019.o_O
