This will not be on clay so presumably the courts are a lower bouncing temporary indoor hard court in Madrid's Magic Box.

Davis Cup Finals also a bit budget compared to the 2020 ATP Cup which uses stadiums in Perth, Sydney, and Brisbane. The Magic Box will be using its much smaller court 2 and 3 for 2/3rds of the Round Robin matches.:( Six Round Robin groups like the ATP Cup with two more QF spots going to the two strongest teams not to win group getting spots in the final 8 (so 8 of 18 teams make it); 2020 ATP Cup has 24 teams and 4 per group.

Best of three sets with two singles matches and one doubles for each tie.

One hot topic will be how to watch this. Davis Cup site is a train wreck and for me at least forces you to buy the one year subscription for 40 euros. I went through this with them over a year ago with their support and they maintain the shorter options should be available, but not for me. Horrible support and horrible site.

One huge issue with this format and only three teams in a group is the selection of the two runner-up teams. Group F with USA, Italy, and Canada have very complete teams, but somehow I don't think it will work out for a runner-up to come out of that strong and even group. Group C strikes as weak on the whole and less deserving a group of the runner-up. Columbia does not have any strong singles players so it seems likely that Belgium or Australia will get a runner-up slot.

Great Singles Matches in Round Robin:
1. Nadal vs Medvedev vs Coric in Group B
2. Goffin v De Minaur
3. Murray v Bublik
4. Shapo v Berrettini v Fritz in Group F
5. Fognini v FAA v Opelka (or Querrey or Tiafoe)
6. Monfils v Djokovic v Nishioka
7. RBA v Rublev(or Khach) v Croatian in Group B
8. Krajinovic v Tsonga
9. Struff v Schwartzman v Garin in Group C

Doubles Matches in Round Robin:
1. Australia vs World Number One Columbia team (Will Austrlia play Kyrgios in doubles?)
2. Group B doubles, Spain vs Khach/Rublev (Paris Finals) vs Croatians
3. Serbia v France
4. USA v Canada v Italy (will Canadians play Shapo, Italians Fognini, USA concoction of mega servers)

Kahzikstan is an odd duck with Kukushkin and Bublik. Will they both just play doubles and singles every match?

My prediction for the Final 8:
Russia wins group B (not Spain, but they do make top two runner-ups)
Canada wins group F (Shapo/Pospisil doubles combo carries them)
Kazhakstan and UK come out of Group E (Kazhakstan as a top runner-up team)
Australia wins group D
France wins group A
Argentina wins group C

Mad Lad will be rested for Davis Cup and needs to not stress himself in final WTF match so Rafa has time to prepare as well.

It has to be said that the TV and the promotion of the Davis Cup Finals is really bad. If they think they've got the next Laver Cup on their hands; think again. ATP Cup will show the ITF morons what's what.:sneaky:

What is magic box ?? GO USA. this event is fixed for RAFA. all those RAFA fans will make it impossible for any other nation to win

Huh. I wasn't really paying attention to Davis cup, but they've got a really strong lineup. #1 Nadal, #2 Djokovic, #4 (for now) Medvedev. They've got the #1 doubles team (Cabal/Farah) and they've got both Murrays. A bunch of other top 20-30 players.

Should be some good matches.

Same stadium as Madrid masters. The box has three retractable roofs. The surface will be indoor hard not to clay.

Clearly group B is the strongest group. I think Spain is the favorite then Russia, so putting them in a group is horrible.

Muzziah will play doubles, no?

I would guess no - Britain's got Jamie Murray and his regular partner Neal Skupski in the lineup. I would suspect they'll go with the doubles specialists for their doubles line and let Andy have the singles he probably wants.

No idea! (Way to lure me in @Meles !)
Yes, it could be Denis' old coach...but I don't think so. I can't think of anyone else that looks like that though. I'm still holding my breath as to whether FAA will be well enough to play though. :(
I think its another doubles player. The Davis Cup site is missing his name.

Will this surface and altitude make RAFA completely useless ?? High altitude at Madrid plus fast indoor synthetic surface that bounces low will make the conditions super fast. Rafa doesn't like this kind of conditions.
Rafa couldn't even train properly for London, and still went 2-1 and beat the Champion :)
So now he'll have shaken off the rust and be even better, so not sure of altitude will be enough to stop him.
And low-bounce didn't trouble him at London.....
So there is a good chance Rafa goes undefeated.

It'll be interesting to see how exciting this event is, and whether it is successful or not. So far it seems very much an afterthought post-World Tour Finals. Personally hoping to see Murray play a few top players later in the draw if possible!

so just how fast is this surface anyway ?? plexy surface can be made very slow if you wanted to

The ITF is a train wreck for this event. They've sold limited coverage. Ticket sales are horrible.

All the players are there and eager.

Are any matches playing now? I can't see any live scores or results, including on the Davis Cup's own website...

@Meles Figured it out...it's Frank Dancevic, the DC team coach. He apparently has the flu and it trying not to spread the germs.

Just click and pray

I'm using monument browser on Xbox and clicking on these links myself from TTW.

Officially the named matches in the links are supposed to be playing, but they've got 2nd singles on first with all these matches.
Pospisil is playing Fognini (not FAA) - not the worst choice as these courts are fast, FAA must still be questionable
Rublev vs Borna Gojo - NCAA runnerup from Wake Forest University - big Croatian with big serve (Cryic not playing Davis Cup this year)
Darcis vs Giraldo - Belgium and Columbia
