Should Jarry win the final in Bastad tomorrow, he may be looking at a week’s stay at the WATLYNM Lodge. Zedraffe will be making the presentation.

Geneva final rematch confirmed for Hamburg first round.:p Jarrybot unbroken in Bastad so maybe he'll have some legs in Hamburg where he beat Thiem last year.

Why is Thiem participating here again ? Does Hamburg has any good mental institution ? Thiem might want to check in, after all he makes one brainless decision after another.

Alejandro Davidovich Fokina lost in the second and final round of qualifying for Hamburg but has now gotten into the main singles draw as a lucky loser. The Spaniard will take on the Argentine Juan Ignacio Londero in first-round action on Tuesday.

Quite the clasho_O @Poisoned Slice Zverev up a break and playing well against Bastad champ.

Earlier today Ruud disposed of Haase in 3 and Thiem dealt with Cuevas and in 2nd set tiebreaker where Cuevas coughed up back to back DFs.

Londero, Bastad finalist, had too much offense for LL Fokina.
It's good to see JIL racking up more ATP match wins - I was a tad worried earlier this year that his title W in Cordoba was a hometown flash in the pan kind of moment.
Also, good to see Basil win his 1R match as defending champ - he's had a so so year at best and 500 points is a lot to defend, especially with another 500 to defend later this year in Beijing.

Basil has been on a slide. Frankly surprised to see him get by Dellien. Londero his next match should be a good one.

Zverev won today, but still a paltry 49% points won on 2nd serve against Jarry who is at best an average returner.

Excited to see Ruud vs Rublev next and winner likely gets Theim, but neither is in great form. Thiem looks really good, but his poor motivation level versus Cuevas won't get him to the title. Its amazing how Thiem won't elevate his game against lesser opponents.

Really at this point I'm waiting for someone to catch fire in Hamburg. At this point Thiemerev final as likely as any. With luck Fognini will see the light and realize he's got a great chance to put himself on a path to the world tour finals and plays well tonight though frankly Molleker could take him in the next round easily enough.:cautious:

not sure if there is a thread for Atlanta, but Tomic looking very Tomic so far. 3-0 double break down vs Tiafoe in 9 minutes, barely moving/hitting with technique on some points.

edit: Francis had points for 5-0 but got flustered and it’s now 4-4. didn’t realize how poorly Tiafoe has been playing of late

FTFY. New dedicated Atlanta thread is up.

Round of 16 play for today and tomorrow:

Ruud vs. Rublev - Ruud won the first set 6-3 and Rublev won the second set 7-5 - they are now playing the 3rd deciding set
Chardy vs. Gasquet guarantees a French player into the QF's

Thiem vs. Fucsovics (Thiem is the #1 seed)

Londero vs. Basilashvili (Londero has been playing really well lately)

Tomorrow's matches:

Fognini vs. Molleker (Will Fabio be fabulous?)

Carreno Busta vs. Struff (Good to see Pablo here but Struff has been playing really well lately)

Delbonis vs. Zverev (will Zverev continue to win at best of 3 events and be hopeless at best of 5? The saga continues)

Krajinovic vs. Klizan (Klizan has been playing very well lately)

Chardy defeated Gasquet 7-6 (5), 7-5

Thiem defeated Fucsovics 7-5, 6-1

Basilashvili has won the first set 6-4, and they are on serve in the 2nd set (Londero)

Thiem will play Rublev in the QF's.

Zverev defeated Delbonis 6-4, 7-6

Krajinovic defeated Klizan 6-7, 7-5, 6-1

Carreno Busta defeated Struff 6-1, 7-6 (really pleased to see Carreno Busta playing well again!)

Fognini leads Molleker 7-5, 1-1...

______

Three of the QF's will be: Thiem vs. Rublev; Chardy vs. Basilashvili; Krajinovic vs. Zverev

Carreno Busta will play the winner of the Fognini/Molleker match

Fognini defeated Moller 7-5, 6-4, so it will be Fognini vs. Carreno Busta. I love 'em both but I will be rooting more for Pablo (:

A Fognini vs Basilashvili final sounds so damn good right now, please let it happen. Also wow, Rublev winning back to back matches over pretty solid clay-courters.

Basilashvili is the first to get to the SF's with an easy two set win over Chardy.

i like this matchup cause you get the feeling rublev and thiem played many times in juniors so rublev isn't too intimidated
