Since nobody created a general discussion for the 2019 Hopman Cup (only thread for Fed-Tsitsi match), so I did.

Entry list:
1. Germany (Angelique Kerber & Alexander Zverev)
2. Switzerland (Belinda Bencic & Roger Federer)
3. USA (Serena Williams & Frances Tiafoe)
4. Greece (Maria Sakkari & Stefanos Tsitsipas)
5. Australia (Ashleigh Barty & Matthew Ebden)
6. France (Alize Corner & Lukas Pouille)
7. Spain (Garbine Muguruza & David Ferrer)
8. Great Britain (Katie Boutler & Cameron Norrie)

2018 winner: Switzerland (Belinda Bencic & Roger Federer)

Was excited for the first match tonight because I thought Fed and Belinda were starting things off, turns out I was mistaken. Greece vs UK tonight, which is probably one of the least interesting matchups in the whole event.

Excited for Spain vs Germany tomorrow night though. Although as I posted in the other thread, wish Garbi had a stronger partner. Match against Kerber should be good, but I don't expect much from Ferrer against Zverev or in the doubles.

Interesting mix of teams. Germany, Switzerland, Greece, USA have solid teams. UK, Australia, France less so. Spain sending a retired geriatric when they have a dozen better players.

Frustrating that despite being in Australia, Hopman Cup is much more Asian and even Europe friendly than us in the east coast when it comes to time...have to always miss the mixed doubles which is my favourite

Is Hopman Cup gonna stream anywhere? I checked some Australian TV sites but doesn't look it they are.

Expecting a Federer loss to Ferrer should they play here.
I think you're right. See Fed's last matches against Roddick/Hewitt/Haas :) .

This might be Fed's only singles loss at HC19. Ferrer is the best Spaniard other than Nadal that can beat Fed here ;). Fed has a habit of losing last-encouter-before-their-retirement matches to his retiring-opponents. See Roddick/Hewitt/Haas.

Noo why is Tsitsipas still wearing stuff from 2018?

I'd expect to see new gear by now from Nike and Adidas.

Titsipas looking scary good right now and he was saying he isn't even playing at 100 % yet due to all the time off. wow. I have to say he is fav for the Aussie open now

Wouldn't say scary good, not seeing what you are.
Not watching the match but following the points. I'd agree that Norrie's service game is not that good enough to hold 3 times in a row with no trouble, against a scary good Tsitsipas.

Tsitsipas and Norrie first set really does have that "first match back" feeling to it all...... Going through the motions, not much rhythm from either player...

No I mean Tsitsipas isn't scary good. I'm not seeing it right now. We'll see in later matches.

That challenge should always be accepted. Those tricky half volley shots off the baseline...

It gets a little murky, when the challenge isn't immediate and the next shot lands in the net. Norrie was a little annoyed.

Never heard of either Australian team members but now will know them.
England ,, Not aussie.. slightly different........LOL. Norrie is ex college challenger level player,,, Stepanoe really off on the timing,,,,,,, just missing huge shots should be going for winners every time... LOL

See that forehand pass by Stepanoe,,, he had all day to hit that one for winner and a set,,,,,,but he mishits it and Norris has easy volley..........LOL

Barty has lots of variety, is a good singles player (rank#15), and an even better doubles player (highest at #5, #7 atm).

Ebden's career has been affected by injuries (especially in 2016, missing 7 months), had a great 2018 and his current rank#39 is about right. Top30 might be his ceiling.

edit: Oh, you were referring to Norrie/Boulter? As @Nostradamus said, they are team UK ;) .

Someone was predicting Tsitsipas would win the AO. Based on this first set against the 90th ranked player in the world, he's not getting close to an AO title. (Yes, I know... "it's an exho!") ;)

Norrie has a nice chopping slice that drew 2 errors from when I watched off Stefanos's forehand.

I feel Tsitsipas is playing at 85-95%, while Norrie is playing for realz :p . I agree, Tsitsipas is not winning AO19. QF is likely his limit this AO.

Stefanos with a lot of success inside the forecourt today, enjoy watching him approach the net, good awareness up there.

He breaks to start the 2nd set.

Oh, I know Tsitsipas is the far better player than the Brit, but he hasn't been showing it. His strokes seem insanely loopy today, more than usual.
he has way too much time with all these spinny no pace short balls he is getting. You know what it is like facing no power pusher player and you have all day to hit the ball and you take big swings and hit way too big. and miss like crazy
