Everyone's pain threshold is DIFFERENT. It is entirely possible that Nadal has an injury flare up and pain. He tolerates some pain and his movement is like 70 percent. It is not BAD enough to force him to retire. But he can still hang in.
I do believe that is absolutely foolish to have persisted with this match. Nadal should have withdrawn. He should know better.
This stupidity from Nadal will LIKELY cost him the French Open defense.
The set point half-volley attempt told the story. Zero commitment.
But will you still meme TTW?Khachanov has the charisma of a dried up grape to boot. These guys are why I won't watch tennis anymore when Fed/Rafa/Djokovic are gone for good.
What's gonna happen now?
What a great troll of the haters there. They got their hopes up that here was finally the career ending injury for Nadal and then this happens.
But will you still meme TTW?
It'll be interesting to see this Nadal play Fed tomorrow

Im convinced pro tennis players have the lowest pain threshold of any sport. No wonder people call it a girly sport
Really? I can tell you even from personal experience that you sometimes get used to recurring injuries and managing pain.
So in Nadal's case, he's had the knee tendinitis since the past 15 years almost. I'm sure he knows how to deal with it. It has also cost him dearly in his career.
I can't remember any top player who has had as MANY SLAM withdrawals and retirements due to injury.
That doesn’t matter really. So what's the working theory?
Nadal has genuine knee issues?
Nadal is balancing his trainer range?
How do you even explain that?
Nadal looks like he didn't want to win.
I think we should start a poll: What hour does Nadal officially withdraw between now and the match scheduled tomorrow.
How do you even explain that?

Congrats to R Nadal blnt K Khachanov 76(2) x 2, KK did not do that much wrong, Nadal just played better, even with his taped knee, toward the end of the end match Nadal was crushing the ball and getting the advantage thru it by cutting down the time KK had to rally it back in descent shape.
Kudos to Nadal
Cheers

I don't have empathy for Nadal because he's been doing this for 15 years and won 17 slams doing it. The fact that no one really knows if it's real or not says all you need to know.Ok, now I understand what it's like to want someone to win/lose so that some whiners could eat it. So apparently Nadal was cheating to get the better of Khachanov because he was in the dire need of some help as he was in danger of losing. Oh wait, he was not losing, and Khachanov was not doing something special. Why in the world would Nadal fake feeling discomfort in the knee? The lack of empathy combined with incessant b*tching is just beyond annoying.
I think it's honestly stupid. Nadal has no chance to win the match against Fed. But he has a 100% chance of hurting himself and screwing his clay season.
I think what really happened was that Nadal was trying to gift the match to KK. But the Russian for some reason was not willing to accept. I bet Nadal would have retired had he lost set 2.
Karen actually played a SUPER DUMB match, I've gotta say.
Nadal hasn't beaten Fed in 5 years. And the drought will likely continue tomorrow. Maybe Nadal's parting aim in his career is to even out the h2h with Fed and lose some to the Swiss.
Perhaps the thought of Djokovic overtaking Fed scares Rafa, so he's trying to prop up Fed's resume. Haha.
well that was before the Curse Of BercyThis Khachanov beat 2018 2nd half Nole?
did you watch the match? KK spraying balls and over swinging not to mention mentally choking; honestly, he was terrible in that second set instead of taking advantage
That’s because he respects Federer.Nadal is playing tomorrow without any signs of injury. Book it.
so you are saying that he faking it, because he is scared of playing Fed? Or better yet an excuse if he loses?Whether he's injured or not, the whole act is beyond old.
Why is it NOT real? There is official diagnosis from Doctors and medical reports.I don't have empathy for Nadal because he's been doing this for 15 years and won 17 slams doing it. The fact that no one really knows if it's real or not says all you need to know.
This ain't my first rodeo with this bull...Nadal is playing tomorrow without any signs of injury. Book it.
Who knows why? That's the problemso you are saying that he faking it, because he is scared of playing Fed? Or better yet an excuse if he loses?
I said what I needed to say.Why is it NOT real? There is official diagnosis from Doctors and medical reports.
What does Nadal get by lying about his injuries? Heck, he's withdrawn from so many slams before and during them. Why would anyone do that unless they had actual injuries.
Where? It's all speculative. Why is it NOT real? There is official diagnosis from Doctors and medical reports.
This ain't my first rodeo with this bull...
And he'll step in with the band on the knee.
He only claims knee injury so he can get a TUE for the upcoming clay season.
