Yeah I thought he looked pretty good. I'll acknowledge that Thiem was able to play more powerfully than Federer but it doesn't mean Federer was toothless and unable to attack. You were negative the whole thread though along with most other Freddos. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Credit to @Meles for being confident in this outcome despite the basic fact that Thiem just won twice as many matches in one tournament than he had all season. It was very hard to believe that that could happen to end fedr’s nine match win streak.

what is fed's ranking now, 5? well i guess he can only more or less make up points from here on out. maybe the goal is to win wimbledon this year w/o winning IW, who knows.

Did Federer win any of the indian wells final when it went the distance. I think no.

5 finals win in straight sets.
4 finals lost, all went to decider in 3 sets

He might win 5, but calling it only 5 is disrespectful of how much effort it will take him to win those 5.

I agree. And if Roger wins more slams, that would complicate matters considerably for Novak.
I really felt that Fed had a shot in Wimb 18 - when Novak was not as good of confident as he is now.
If Fed had beaten Anderson, he might have won the tournament and had 21 slams at this point and might have stopped the monster that Novak is now.
That was a most puzzling loss for me. Never in my wildest dreams did I expect Fed to lose that one.

Yep Thiem takes over as #4. Doesn't affect seedings for Miami since Rafa withdrew. At least Fed has defended his points and rankings wise only way is up from here.

Impressed with Thiem, both his progression on HC (proving that the USO run wasn't a fluke) and his mentality. Played some great tennis as the match went on. Hopefully he builds on this because we need some younger players stepping up. Fed did make some poor decisions the game he got broken in the third but Dominic came up with 2 quality passes.

IW is cancelled in my mind, two years in a row god damn it.

i mean thiem deservess, he was the better player and all but iwanted to end the weekend on a high note

They've always been decent in 1000's and below, they need to translate it into the majors though, and I've been saying that for 3 years already. Any day now.

Thiem already is translated it into the majors but his RG final was very disappointing for his standards. He should have challenged Nadal more than that. Hopefully he learned from that loss. Zverev and Khachanov have not done much in the majors yet though. Zverev especially should be farther ahead now but I do feel the tide is started to turn now in tennis.

Not at all convinced Thiem will translate this into the HC slams, or any of the slams at all tbh. That's the most disappointing thing about this loss now. If he does translate it I'll be super happy and will forget this loss in a hurry, but I'm afraid that he won't. Very afraid.

Exactly.

It’s not like he’s being soundly and fairly beaten. He’s literally choking them away.
It’s one thing when Fed loses playing freely the entire match (like in last year’s IW final). But it’s another when you can visibly see he has lost belief by the end and is making terrible decisions like those two drop shots when a very makeable forehand would have won the point. Today’s loss is reminiscent of some of his losses against Nadal and Djokovic from year’s past. He fought, yes, but it was very clear Fed was the one who blinked at the end. And that kind of loss comes back to haunt you. I almost feel like Fed needs another injury break like he did in 2H 2016 because these close losses are adding up and eating away at his psyche.

Just because Federer didn't lose in 2 it doesn't mean he choked the match away. He didn't play his best for sure, made mistakes on important points, but overall Thiem was the better player in the 3rd. Clearly better from the baseline, solid with serve and at the net.

Pretty great match imo. Fed's obviously been way better than this, but I've definitely seen him play far worse and get away with wins lately. Worrying thing is that he brainfarts short bits every match and this time Thiem broke him twice.

It's huge for Thiem though, securing a top 4 seed for the first tournaments of the clay season, perhaps even RG

Thiem was not clearly better in the 3rd. He won his only break point and that was the difference. Shortly before Thiem broke the commentators were talking about how it was looking like Federer was about to take the title.

I just received a SEXSTORSION email:

https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/ne...tating-they-have-video-of-you-on-adult-sites/

this guy sure must be a FED fan!!!

:D
oh man, where they get these ideas?

Very first choice is to skip this email. in that case, i am going to send out your very own video recording to each of your your personal contacts and thus you can easily imagine concerning the shame you feel. Keep in mind should you be in an intimate relationship, how it will affect?
2nd solution would be to give me USD 986. Let us refer to it as a donation. as a consequence, i most certainly will without delay delete your video. You can continue on daily life like this never happened and you never will hear back again from me.

:D :D :D sure thing mate!

I haven't seen you in such positive mood since forever.

It is a miracle and Dominic is the magician.

Fed was regularly on the back foot though. He isn’t getting enough credit for how well he toughed things out by some of my fellow Fed fans, largely because they can’t see through the tears...

Federer got absolutely bullied from the baseline. He always used to be the one doing the bullying. He will get outpowered again in slow courts like Miami and in the clay court season. He just can’t step in and rip the ball anymore with power like he used to. His movement and explosiveness have declined with age. It’s still amazing he’s here at 38.

I'm merely trying to calm the hysteria surrounding Thiem's win. Congratulations to him, but he didn't beat any world beaters this tournament. I still think he's a clay specialist.

In the last year we have had Zverev at Madrid, Khachanov at Paris, Zverev at WTF and Thiem at IW. It should be clear now that this newer generation are coming into their own. I actually think tennis is in a decent place now compared to a year ago, and good to see these young players stepping up now.

LMFAO. Stealthy attempt to hype next gen detected

Let us talk when they show up in majors

We are having Anderson. Isner and Delpo making SF and finals and not those guys .

Thiem won 8 games at FO
